Wray Joseph Barry

With sadness and heavy hearts the family announces that Wray Joseph Barry, aged 89 years of Moose Jaw, SK passed away peacefully on Friday, October 22nd, 2021 in Assiniboia, SK.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Vetta Barry; and his brother, Calvin (Audrey).  Wray is survived by his wife, Helen (née: Merrick) to whom he was married for 68 years; daughter, Shelley (Daryl) Sapp; son, Jack (Debbie); 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Wray will be lovingly remembered and missed by his entire family.

Wray was born and raised in Tuxford, Saskatchewan.  He spent his working life employed by the Canadian Pacific Railroad.  He started with the C.P.R. in 1951 as a brakeman and retired as an engineer in July 1989 after 33 years of a fulfilling and successful career.  Throughout his life, Wray’s greatest enjoyments were spending time with his family and friends, travelling, golfing and flying with his good friend Jack.

The Barry family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Ross Payant Nursing Home in Assiniboia for the compassion and excellent care they gave our father.  We can never thank the nurses and staff enough.

In keeping with Wray’s wishes, a Private Family Celebration of Wray’s life will be held at a later date.  Flowers or donations are gratefully declined.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Todd Sjoberg, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

My deepest sympathy to all the Barry family. Wray always had a big smile and a big hello whenever I saw him outside cutting the grass or other yard work. He was a good “eastender”. Cherish the memories, and they will comfort you in this time of sorrow.

Dear Helen and Family, Our deepest sympathy on your loss. When I worked at Sears with you, we met your husband, Wray, only to find out he’d gone to school in Tuxford with my Mother, Roberta, and her other ‘McCoy’ sisters and brother. I loved hearing his lively version of the stories he’d tell about those times when they were all so young and full of mischievousness. Throughout my years of growing up, my parents, Bill and Roberta Gardner, would occasionally meet up at a function and then afterwards speak so highly of you both and how they’d had such a wonderful time. Don and I will also miss having our fun exchanges at the end of the Warrior’s games while walking to our cars in the freezing cold. We shall never forget those memories and shall cherish them always. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. May Wray rest in peace!!!
