REINHOLD FRED WEINHEIMER

February 20th, 1935 – August 5th, 2025

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that the family of Reinhold Fred Weinheimer announces his peaceful passing on Wednesday, August 5th, 2025, at the age of 90 years.  He left this world gently, surrounded by the love and presence of his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Sophie Weinheimer; brothers: Walter, George, Eddie, and Willie; and sisters, Alma and Irma. Reinhold will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 61 years, Kathleen; twin sons, Larry (Kelly) and Terry (Susan); grandchildren, Whitney (Michael Walecke) and Keaton Weinheimer; great-granddaughter, Eleanor; sister, Thelma Machmer; numerous sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Spring Valley, Saskatchewan, Reinhold later moved with Kathy, Larry, and Terry to Moose Jaw, SK in 1983, settling on Holdsworth Crescent.  Although he relocated, his heart remained in farming.  Reinhold became a “city farmer,” commuting back to Spring Valley to seed, harvest, and care for the land.  In 1963, Reinhold and his brother Ed purchased a backhoe, beginning a new chapter in his life.  He quickly became skilled with the machine, first digging a well and trenching a half-mile line to bring running water to their home.  This marked the start of many years of community service — installing water lines for neighbours, placing culverts for the RM, and digging graves with care and respect.  After retiring from farming in 2000, Reinhold held an auction sale and shifted his focus to gardening, tending to plots both at home and in community gardens.

Reinhold and Kathy enjoyed their retirement years with travel, camping in their fifth wheel, and attending polka parties with friends.  A highlight of their adventures was a romantic cruise along the Danube River to celebrate their 50th anniversary.  Reinhold loved to explore the world, taking many bus and casino trips to places including Minot, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Nashville, Los Angeles, Yuma, and Florida.  He truly lived a full life, celebrating his 90th birthday this past February with cake and ice cream at McDonald’s, surrounded by friends.

On July 17th, his 61st wedding anniversary, Reinhold took a fall at home and was transported by paramedics to the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital.  He remained in palliative care there until his passing.  The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff who cared for him with such compassion and kindness.  He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, gentle spirit, love of family, and unwavering connection to his roots.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 12th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 15 Paul Dr, Moose Jaw SK.  Pastor Jason Schultz will officiate and interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Terry, Larry, Kathy, and Thelma … my heart truly breaks and goes out to you all. I know that the grandchildren from both sides of the family will miss him, greatly, too. … And while Ellie-Kate will not recall him, beyond what her mother shares of memories past, I am so grateful that Reinhold had the opportunity to meet her and visit with her while he was still alive. I fondly recall the FB photo of Reinhold, Whitney and Ellie-Kate at a sports game, in SK – a precious shot, indeed. My love and blessings to you all as you walk through this period of grief, healing, and moving forward in the surrounding love and presence of our Lord, your family, and friends.
