Bonny Taylor

Bonny Taylor, 77, of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on July 31, 2024. Bonny was born May 2, 1947, in Regina to David and Dorothy Ballagh. She was the oldest of five children. The first five years of her life were spent in Abernathy, SK, where her parents farmed. She later moved to Regina, then Moose Jaw, where her father worked as a meat inspector at the Moose Jaw Pork plant while continuing to farm in Abernathy. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She married the love of her life, Tom Taylor, whom she met at a Temple Garden’s dance in Moose Jaw in 1966.

Bonny grew up on Grey Avenue, the east side of Moose Jaw with lots of tales of the hard-knocks life in a small prairie town. She always instilled the lesson of being a good person. She left Moose Jaw in 1973 and travelled the world with her city-slicker husband and three children, as a dedicated wife to a military man. First to CFB Baden-Soellingen, Germany; then Chatham NB; Cold Lake, AB; and then back to Moose Jaw, SK to be close to her family in their retirement years. She was mother to all, matriarch and confidante, hosting tea every Saturday at her home where family and friends could meet, reconnect, and share stories. It was must-see family time, with plenty of advice, stories, surprises and laughter.

Bonny first worked as a ward clerk at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Then, much of her working life was spent with the Canadian Armed Forces: at the rink canteen where she could keep tabs on her kids playing hockey; as a figure skating coach; a secretary at the Flight Instructors School in CFB Moose Jaw taking care of pilots – some of whom would go on to become astronauts and a governor-general. The final 10 years of her working life would be spent with her daughter at her office until retiring in 2015. Aside from work, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and spent time with friends and family at the Cosmos Centre. She was known for her kindness, her logic, huge generosity, sharp wit and tick-tickles. She was someone you could talk to about anything. She will be deeply mourned and missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Tom Taylor, her children and grandchildren; son Brian (Vaughn), grandchildren  Gabriel Neff-Taylor, Griffin Neff-Taylor; son Kevin (Nicole) Taylor,  grandchildren Dylan (Amanda) Taylor,  Kylee Taylor; daughter Susan (Terry), grandson Keaton Weinheimer; brothers David and Albert Ballagh, her sister Janet (Lyle) Darwent, nephew Dean (Heather) Darwent, niece Cory (Terry) Hoch-Bullen.  She is predeceased by her father David Ballagh, mother Dorothy Ballagh, brother Barry Ballagh, sister-in-law Catherine Keevil, and cousin George Thomas.

Thank you to Dr. Janzen and Dr. Vertue during the final moments of her care and the kind staff in WHF Wigmore Emergency Department. Her life will be celebrated.

A celebration of Bonny’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Moose Jaw Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers you may wish to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Sask. 100-119 14 Street NW Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Cara Ashworth Funeral Director 306-693-4550
