Doreen was born on the family farm and delivered by a midwife in 1933, and grew up on this farm between Govan and Semans, SK. She went to Teachers College in Moose Jaw, SK and the first school she taught in was in Liberty, SK. She could always figure out how old her students were from the grade she taught them in. Doreen was a dedicated wife, and mother, who always put her family first, and enjoyed doing many things during her long life, even trying to become a professional water skier one summer at Etter’s Beach. She thought she was drowning and called out for Terry to rescue her. She had a green thumb and always had a garden, even when they retired and moved into Liberty. Her gardening ended when she took a tumble in the garden and broke her hip and was rescued by her grandson Tanner, who called 911. She loved to sew her own clothes and for others and in later years made quilts for all of her family, which usually ended with her fingertips bleeding from all the hand quilting. She enjoyed knitting dresses for herself in the early years and made numerous beautiful keepsake afghans for her children and grandchildren. She tolerated going golfing as long as Terry insisted she go along. She also enjoyed couples curling with Eugene and Carolyn Wolff in local bonspiels. In later years Doreen and Terry enjoyed RVing and camping around Saskatchewan, and wintering in Mesa, Arizona. She was a devoted member of the Liberty Cemetery Committee and the United Church Ladies for many years.
Doreen will be remembered for her kindness, determination, love of family, and her many quilts that we will cherish, and the countless memories throughout her life. We love you and will miss you.
A Private Family Service will be held at a later time. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
