Iver Lee Joseph Smith

Iver Lee Joseph Smith aged 88 years of Briercrest, SK, passed away on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, in Moose Jaw, SK.  Iver was a man of few words but when he spoke, everyone took note.  He was born in Chaplin, SK to Wilhelmina and John Smith and attend school in Central Butte, SK.  Iver chose to join the Air Force to serve his country after completing his studies, and he was a proud serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Iver met Doris Kitsco while he was stationed on Edmonton, AB, where they were married and welcomed their daughter Sandy.  The family moved to Germany and then Ian was born.  Four years later, Iver was stationed in North Bay, ON and then went on to Calgary, AB.  Upon his retirement from service when he was sent to California, Iver returned to Calgary to work for the Calgary Transit for 23 years.  He had many different talents and trades during his working years, too many to mention.  Iver had a strong work ethic and set an excellent example for his children to follow.

Iver and Doris moved to Briercrest as he was very proud of his Saskatchewan heritage.  They found a love of travelling and enjoyed going on a Mediterranean Cruise, visited dear friends in Germany, and loved their many trips to the Yukon.  Iver also loved to read and spent his spare time reading one book after another.

Family, friends, neighbours, and regulars at the grocery store have many fond memories of chatting with Iver and we will miss him more than words can say.

A Private Family Service will be held to honour Iver.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550 www.moosejawfuneralhome.com

Is there for honest Poverty
That hings his head, an’ a’ that;
The coward-slave, we pass him by,
We dare be poor for a’ that!
For a’ that, an’ a’ that.
Our toils obscure an’ a’ that,
The rank is but the guinea’s stamp,
The Man’s the gowd for a’ that.

What though on hamely fare we dine,
Wear hoddin grey, an’ a that;
Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine;
A Man’s a Man for a’ that:
For a’ that, and a’ that,
Their tinsel show, an’ a’ that;
The honest man, tho’ e’er sae poor,
Is king o’ men for a’ that.

Ye see yon birkie ca’d a lord,
Wha struts, an’ stares, an’ a’ that,
Tho’ hundreds worship at his word,
He’s but a coof for a’ that.
For a’ that, an’ a’ that,
His ribband, star, an’ a’ that,
The man o’ independent mind,
He looks an’ laughs at a’ that.

A Prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an’ a’ that!
But an honest man’s aboon his might –
Guid faith, he mauna fa’ that!
For a’ that, an’ a’ that,
Their dignities, an’ a’ that,
The pith o’ Sense an’ pride o’ Worth
Are higher rank than a’ that.

Then let us pray that come it may,
As come it will for a’ that,
That Sense and Worth, o’er a’ the earth
Shall bear the gree an’ a’ that.
For a’ that, an’ a’ that,
It’s comin yet for a’ that,
That Man to Man the warld o’er
Shall brithers be for a’ that.

    Dear Auntie Doris, Sandy, and Ian,

    No words can express the feelings you must be going through at this time. Our deepest condolences to all of you. We thought the world of Uncle Iver. He was a kind, considerate, humble man, quietly inquisitive and thoughtful in his words. May he rest in peace, and may you all know that we are here for you all of you, to support you. We will cherish the memories with Uncle Iver and remember that his spirit is watching from afar.

    From the song Turn turn turn based on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 are the words a time to be born, a time to die and a time to every purpose under heaven. And we can only guess the angels called Iver and spoke the words, its time. And so it will be with each of us. However, Iver Lee Joseph Smith just so happens to be someone you cannot forget – in his quiet but brilliant
    thoughts of the world – he has brought into each of our lives a magnificent measure of happiness. And how we shall miss his personal opinions on life – and it seems there just was never enough time to spend with Iver and unravel the ways of the world. Our love and our wish you will now find joy once again spending time with those who have gone before you. * And to everything turn turn turn. There is a season turn turn turn. And a time to every purpose under heaven.

    A very good friend of our family has been called to the Lord.
    Iver Smith from Canada RIP
    He was like a second father to my wife, she will miss his warm words, his gestures and his wisdom.
    During their countless video calls, she always felt safe and at ease.
    For us, Iver is more, much more than just a
    vacation acquaintance, he was a true and sincere friend of the family. We pray for you dear Doris and your family, may the Lord give you strength in this difficult time.
    We also pray for Iver and light a candle ️, which we place at the window so that the eternal light may shine for him and I am sure that as an angel dear Doris he will watch over you

    **In silent memory

    A star goes out in the sky,
    A heart stops beating.
    We feel deep inside,
    Carried by pain and grief.

    But your love stays with us,
    Like an invisible bond.
    Your smile lives in our hearts,
    Gives us support and firm footing.

    You are now free, far from every burden,
    Have now found peace.
    In our dreams, in our thoughts,
    We remain eternally connected.

    Time may heal wounds,
    But suffering never fades.
    Your light will always shine in our midst
    Shining near and far.

    In silent mourning we remember,
    Of all the beautiful hours.
    And know that we have found you, beloved one,
    Found in eternity.

    I hope this poem brings a little comfort in a difficult time

    I miss the man I was so lucky to call dad, I will be forever grateful for our time spent in the Yukon, building fences and chopping firewood, sitting on the porch solving all the worlds problems, there will never be a day that goes by that I don’t think about you, I know you are up there watching over all of us. We miss you so much.
