Bernadette Mary Shenher

It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce that Bernadette Mary Shenher passed away on Sunday, June 7th, 2026, at the age of 80 years.  Bernadette lived a full and meaningful life often facing challenges but always remaining devout to her faith in God and she was particularly known for her optimism, sense of moral justice, and compassion for those around her.

Often called Bernie or Beany, she was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan on October 28th, 1945.  She briefly entered the convent with the plans to become a nun but eventually left it to pursue a family life and eventually met Henry Shenher with whom she had two children.  Bernadette worked as a hair stylist and enjoyed her life as a homemaker after settling in Moose Jaw, SK.  She very much enjoyed attending church regularly, going to hockey games, playing cards, listening to music, and travelling with the family.

Bernadette had several health problems on and off at varying times including battles with schizophrenia, hip surgeries, and a severe infection, but had an incredible fortitude to remain positive, and recover from all of the ailments that life dealt her at various times throughout her life.  Bernadette moved into Pioneer Lodge over a decade ago and remained there until her passing.  Just as she had displayed a happiness and zest for life with her family at home, she also integrated well within her time living at Pioneer Lodge.  Though confined to a wheelchair, she highly enjoyed the company of a friendly and highly efficient staff, as well as regular daily activities such as guest singers, movies, bingo, crafts, and playing the piano.  She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Shenher; father, Andre; mother, Gertrude; sisters: Germaine Van Kampen, Rita (Roy) Sidloski, and Darlene (Walter) Reihl; brothers: Andre Jr, (Mildred), Gordon (Jeanne), and Jerome; and brother-in-law, Alex.  Bernadette is survived by her son, Dominic (Mariko); daughter, Christine (Larry); grandchildren: Elizabeth (King), Amy (Truman), Walter, and Noah; sisters, Beatrice (John) Sidloski and Cecile Halyk; brothers: Stafford (Darlene), Clifford (Marilyn), Wilfred (Adele), and Doug (Linda); sister-in-law, Valerie; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 19th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at St Joseph’s Church, 1064 3rd Ave NW, Moose Jaw, SK.  Father Bert Lillo will be the presiding celebrant, and interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.  A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, June 18th, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pioneer Lodge for their long-time high-level care and at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their professionalism in her times of illness.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Shirese Noble Funeral Director 306-693-4550
