STEVEN CHARLES SCHAFFER
December 26th, 1940 – October 4th, 2025
It is with deep sadness that the family of Steven Charles Schaffer announces his passing on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, at Providence Place in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, at the age of 84 years.
Steve was born on December 26th, 1940, at the Indian Head Hospital and grew up on the family farm near Odessa, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of fifteen children and carried a lifelong sense of union pride and hard work that shaped everything he did.
While raising his three boys, Steve lived in White City, SK, later settling in Moose Jaw in 1998. He loved spending time in his garage, where he was happiest tinkering, fixing, and visiting — often turning the space into a friendly gathering place for neighbors, friends, and “his boys.”
Steve was a proud Union Millwright, a member of Saskatchewan Millwrights Local 1021 for many years. Known for his strong work ethic and sense of brotherhood, he embodied the pride and solidarity of his trade.
He also had a great ear for music and a lifelong passion for the accordion, often filling a room with laughter and melody. In his later years, Steve shared that gift by entertaining residents at Providence Place, bringing joy to those around him.
Above all, Steve was a devoted father and grandfather. His greatest pride and joy were his family. Steve is survived by his three sons and ten grandchildren: Darren (Larai) – Taylor, Madyson, Dawson, Wynter, Devon (Chelsea) – Dyson, Starla, Tayen, Daxyn, and Dustin (Destiny) – Draven, Dace. He is also survived by his brother, Max (Margaret) Schaffer; sister-in-law, Anne Schaffer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish his memory.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Magdalena Schaffer; and siblings: Jacob Schaffer, Margaret (Tony) Weisgarber, Vincent (Margaret) Schaffer, Anton (Helen) Schaffer, John Schaffer, Kasper Schaffer, Peter (Loretta) Schaffer, Joseph Schaffer, Johon Schaffer, Leo (Loreen) Schaffer, Rose (Stan) Eberle, Barbara (Mike) Weisgarber, and Elenore (Sandy) Duthie.
Gone, but never forgotten — Steve’s union pride, humor, and music will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Parish, 1064 3rd Ave NW in Moose Jaw, SK. Father Bert Lillo will be the presiding celebrant and interment will take place in Odessa Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
Sorry for your loss boys, Steve was one of a kind. Had an answer for everything. One of you can now keep the black Dodge going, his pride and joy.
Our family sends deep condolences to Steve’s family. Our mother is a resident in Guardian Grove, and since September 2024 we’ve greatly enjoyed visiting with Steve and listening his accordion. He brought many nights to life with his after-dinner music in the dining room. He will be dearly missed, and fondly remembered. The Will Family
