HAZEL ELAINE ROSS (née: Johnson)
April 19th, 1936 – March 10th, 2026
Hazel Elaine Ross passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10th, 2026, with family by her side. Born on April 19th, 1936, Hazel lived a life defined by loyalty, hard work, sports, and deep commitment to the people and communities she loved.
She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Margaret Johnson, and by her husband, Dave. Hazel is survived by her children: Michele (Rick), Gord, Don, and Kathy (Dean), who will forever hold her wisdom and love close. She was a proud gramma to Travis (Alyssa), Courtney (Mark), Elissa, Jack, Craig (Wanda) and family, Shawn and family, and Rodney and family, each of whom brought her immense joy. She will also be lovingly remembered by her brothers, Paul Johnson and Ron (Wendy) Johnson; and will be missed greatly by her nieces, nephews, extended family, and many lifelong friends. A special place in mom’s heart is for her neighbours, Ray and Sharon Colenutt, who became family and helped Hazel with kindness and support before her move to the Manor in Avonlea.
Hazel worked for many years at the Harwood Hotel alongside her daughter and her mom, and then went to work for Dr. Wigmore, where she was known for her reliability and dedication that she brought to every task. Colleagues became friends, and friends became family. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and supported — always ready to lend a hand, offer a ride, or step in when someone needed help.
Outside of work, Hazel volunteered at St. Andrew’s Church and in Parson’s Pantry with her mom, Peggy. She loved to play ball and curl, embracing the competitiveness, laughter, and good times that came with every game. Whether on the field, at the rink, or gathered with friends, she brought a spark that made every space better.
Hazel’s life was shaped by generosity, loyalty, and a deep sense of responsibility to others. Her family and friends will remember her as kind, as someone who loved music and dancing, and never hesitated to help. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
Hazel’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Coteau Range Manor. The love and care they provided over the last 9 years was deeply appreciated. You were her second family.
A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Reverend Tim Ellis will officiate and interment will take place in Rosedale Cemetery. Those not able to attend may view the service by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/
