Craig Pottruff

1981 – 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce that Craig Pottruff of Calgary, Alberta was called home suddenly on Saturday, August 5th, 2023.

Craig was born April 19th, 1981 to parents Lance and Verna Pottruff in Central Butte, Saskatchewan.  As he was growing up, Craig had a strong love for the family farm located near Lake Valley, Saskatchewan, which remains an important place for the family to this day.

Craig was always an ambitious, creative and motivated individual in all aspects of life.  Upon his graduation from high school at Aden Bowman Collegiate in Saskatoon, SK in 1999, Craig embarked on a career path that included a wide variety of entrepreneurial ventures and challenging professional roles that were the product of a strong personal motivation – a trademark personality trait.

Craig had a unique ability to befriend almost anyone, and within minutes would be able to make you feel like a lifelong friend.  He was equally happy to seek adventure on trips to various places in the world including Hawaii, St. Maarten, Ireland, and Italy, as well as locations closer to home such as the Rocky Mountains, adventures in his adopted home city of Calgary, and in Saskatchewan at the family farm near Lake Valley, family home on Buffalo Pound Lake, and a long standing love of the annual country music festival in Craven, Saskatchewan (Country Thunder).

Most important was Craig’s love of family and friends.  Craig would go out of his way to do anything to bring joy to those around him, and he would give love and support to those who were in need in ways that were truly exceptional.

He was predeceased by his mother, Verna Pottruff; grandparents: Ken and Fran Pottruff, Irvin and Margaret Buckmaster; uncle, Ervin Buckmaster; and cousins, Seann Hall and Grant Buckmaster.  Craig is survived by his father, Lance Pottruff (Candi); brothers, Chad Pottruff (Stephanie) and Keith Pottruff; as well as extended family including: uncle, Rob Pottruff (Charlene), aunt, Mary Ellen Hall (Daryl); aunt, Sonia Buckmaster; cousins: Staci Hill (Sean), Justin Pottruff, Wendy Waalen (Harald), Jared Buckmaster, Everett Buckmaster, and  Briana Buckmaster (José); nephews: Ethan, Carter, and Hayden; niece, Sidney; as well as many more extended family members.

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in Hillcrest Apostolic Church, 1550 Main St N, Moose Jaw, SK.  Those not able to attend may view the service virtually by going to www.protecstudios.ca/live.  A Celebration of Craig’s Life will take place in Calgary, AB at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations in Craig’s name be made to a local SPCA or an animal rescue organization to honour his love for dogs, including his most recent canine companions Margo and Morgan.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane, Gary McDowell Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Hearing of Craig’s passing was probably one of the worst days of my life, it never has felt real and I don’t want it to ever. Craig was a best friend to everyone he had met in his time here. Everyday a memory creeps up and all I can do now is smile and know that our time together was what it was. Until we meet again

My absolute condolences to the Pottruff family. May Craig Rest In Peace. I met Keith in Cancun, went to Calgary more than a few times to Craig Seibel’s parties during Stampede and we’ll kept in touch on Facebook. Seeing all his lovely photos of all of you, through Keith’s eyes a d relationship with Craig. I am saddened for your unimaginable loss.

Keith, Chad,.. I shed a thousand tears the morning I heard this news.. so I can only imagine what you and your family went through. For hours I kept thinking it must be a mistake, and then sadness would set it. Craig was beyond a joyful soul… he lit up every room he walked into and left an impression on everyone he met. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to call him my friend and I will miss him so much. Please pass on my condolences to the rest of your family. -Thu
