Dwight Maynard Pohl

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dwight Maynard Pohl, aged 81 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, announce his passing on Friday, April 3rd, 2026.

Dwight was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Shirley Pohl (October 25th, 2024); parents, Louis and Verna Pohl of Regina, Saskatchewan; and sister, Evelyn Ireton of Regina.

Dwight was born on June 14th, 1944, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and later grew up in Regina.  In his early teenage years, he met the love of his life, Shirley Bowen, and they were married on October 9th, 1965.  Shortly after their wedding, Dwight and Shirley moved to Calgary, Alberta, where Dwight began building his career with CP Rail.

They welcomed two daughters, Leann Marie (born December 25th, 1972) and Melissa Nicole (born August 30th, 1975).  Family meant everything to Dwight, and some of their most cherished memories were made camping together in Johnston Canyon, Radium, Jasper, and Lake Louise.

Dwight loved both his family and his life in Calgary.  He formed many close friendships and valued time spent with neighbors and friends.  He especially enjoyed Gary’s Lobster Bakes, bike riding with his family and close friend Lynn Burdett, croquet tournaments in Deerbow Circle Park, and neighborhood garage gatherings.  In June of 1989, the family moved back to Moose Jaw, where Dwight continued his work with CP Rail until his retirement.

Dwight was incredibly proud of his two daughters.  Leann married Allan Ferguson in June of 1996, and together they had two children, Braiden Dwight (born January 13th, 2000) and Ashlyn Rachel (born February 11th, 2001).  His grandchildren brought him immense joy.  Melissa and Leann remained a constant and caring presence in their parents’ lives, spending meaningful time with them providing support, companionship, and a source of humility and strength.  Later, as needs became more, Melissa chose to move in with her parents, creating them gourmet meals, providing constant and affectionate care, as well as caring for herself.

Dwight will be remembered for his deep love of family, his quiet strength, and the simple joys he found in time spent with those closest to him.  He will be dearly missed by his daughters, grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.

Dwight will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Leann (Allan) Ferguson and Melissa; grandchildren, Braiden Ferguson (Julia Camina) and Ashlyn Ferguson (Zachary Moore); brother-in-law, Gordon Bowen (Donna); as well as numerous other extended family.

A private family service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Dwight’s memory may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

I am sorry to learn that Dwight is gone. I worked with him at Keon, a long time ago. He was a great person to work with and I enjoyed having him around. Over the years, we often ran into each other at the Coop, where we’d catch up on what each of us were doing at that time. I will miss him

My deepest sympathies to Dwight’s family.
I met Dwight in 1968 at Alyth Diesel shop and we became very close friends.
We worked together over the years and kept in touch after his move to MJ.
I will miss Dwight but always remember my friend, the good times and great memories we had.

Sorry to hear about Dwight’s passing. Deb and I are deeply saddened by this. Dwight and Shirley and the kids were the best neighbours anyone could have. We spent many nights drinking and solving the world’s problems. Both Dwight and Shirley will both be dearly missed.
