ROBERT MCKENTY, CD

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” James McKenty, who departed this life on Friday, May 29th, 2026 at Providence Place in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.  Born on February 1st, 1936 in London, Ontario, Bob lived a remarkable life of 90 years, marked by service, dedication, and love for family and community.

Bob proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), later known as the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), from 1954 until his retirement in 1980.  He met his wife June in Quebec where they were both stationed with the RCAF.  He said he pulled some strings to get her posted to France and wooed her until they got married in Metz, France in 1962.  Subsequent postings took them to 4 Wing in Baden Soellingen, West Germany, CFB Cold Lake, AB, CFB North Bay, ON, CFB Petawawa, ON, CFS Mill Cove, NS and finally CFB Moose Jaw.  He obtained the rank of Sergeant and was the Senior Med. A. at the base hospital at CFB Moose Jaw.  His commitment to serving others continued with the Department of National Defence (DND) from 1982 to 1996.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was a man of many passions.  He enjoyed horseback riding, golf, coaching and officiating hockey.  His dedication to service extended into his personal life as a committed member of The International Association of Lions Clubs, where he was distinguished as a Life Member and honoured with the Melvin Jones Fellowship.  Furthermore, his service to Canada was recognized with the Canadian Forces Decoration-First Clasp and the Special Service Medal-NATO.  Bob was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, where he shared camaraderie and fellowship with many.  His deep sense of community was evident through his numerous contributions and active participation in these organizations.

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, mother Carrie and father James; sister, Ellen; brothers, Bill and Clare (Butch); and son-in-law, Glen.  Bob is survived by his devoted wife, June McKenty; son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Sanghamitra; daughter, Tracey; son-in-law, Simo; grandchildren: Matthew (Venessa), Braydon (Holly), Logan (Jayden), and Anika; and great-grandchildren, Trenton and Sorcha.  He will also be fondly remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends (especially those at Rosewood Place).  Special thank you to his long term (40+ years) physician Dr. Volker Rininsland, as well as the caring staffs of Moose Jaw Special Care Home and Providence Place.

Bob’s warmth, humour, and unwavering kindness touched the hearts of all who knew him.  He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

A Roman Catholic Service with Royal Canadian Legion Honour Guard to honour Bob’s life will be held on Friday, June 12th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of Our Lady, 566 Vaughan St in Moose Jaw, SK.  Family, friends, and those whose lives were enriched by Bob’s presence are invited to attend and celebrate his enduring legacy.  Father Nestor Gregoire will officiate, and interment will take place in Rosedale Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bob’s memory to CNIB or Ronald McDonald House, reflecting his spirit of generosity and compassion.

May he rest in eternal peace,
reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.
Per ardua ad astra

Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

    Dear June:

June: Please accept my sincere condolences on Bob’s passing.

I remember Bob and yourself well from my time in CFS MILL COVE Radio station. We were good friends during the time we were stationed there.

Bob was always ready to assist others, and he got along well with all the people he encountered. No doubt he will be dearly missed by all his loved ones and friends.

    RIP my friend.

Lion Bob was a mentor of mine. He served as District Governor two years before I did and he and June were almost a second set of parents for my wife and me. We always enjoyed his sense of humour and his dedication to helping others. Long after he was no longer active as a Lion, he would always follow Lions events and want to know how things were going. Our condolences to June and their extended family.

I’d like to extend my deepest condolences to June and the entire McKenty family. I first met Bob back in the day when I took a term job at 15 Wing as a Stores Person in the Supply section, he was my supervisor and he was a joy to work with. His sense of humor really made for a great place to work. Years later, his humor would follow me as I would interact with him at my current job. Bob will be sadly missed.
    RIP Bob.

Sincere condolences to Bob’s family. First met Bob and Rick in the 80’s at the hockey rink as we had many occasions to officiate hockey games. Bob’s sense of humour and his quest to have fun made the games quite interesting. Always admired how active he was in the community giving his time to others. Rest in Peace.
