Barbara Ann McEwen
Barbara Ann McEwen, born in Moose Jaw, SK on November 7th, 1968, passed away on Friday, January 9th, 2026 at the age of 57 years.
Left to mourn her passing are her parents, Robert and Darlinda McEwen; sister, Stacie (Darcy) Jensen and their children Hannah (Ryan McLeod), Max, Victor, and Jack; sister, Vicki (Scott) Halverson and their children Alyssa Halverson-Gray (Logan) and their son Liam, Jordyn, and Lauren; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends all across North America; as well as all of the wonderful, dedicated people who have cared for Barb throughout her life at Valley View Center and most recently at Karis Moose Jaw. Without their care and love for her, Barbara would not have enjoyed her life as she did.
Barbara “Barbie” was born with disabilities that meant she would not be able to speak, yet anyone who spent any time with her was soon able to understand the smiles, frowns, and flickers of her eyes to be able to communicate with her. She had a great sense of humour. She loved sight gags but understood more complicated humour and giggled or laughed when she got the joke. She was able to play jokes on people too. Barbara knew if she stared at something, everyone would soon look to see what she was looking at. “Made You Look!” It always worked and she knew what she was doing! Certain words and phrases would make her laugh, and you could always get a smile out of her.
Barbie’s smile was her greatest asset. Even on a bad day, she would smile and captivate anyone who was with her.
Barbie has had a very interesting life. With the help of support workers, family, and friends, she has had many experiences in her life. She has been on a plane, various boats, and camping at Camp Easter Seal when she was younger. She loved dogs, cats, horses, and other farm animals. She had a special dog, Gus, who was gentle with her, and she could attempt to pet him or squeeze him without him being worried.
Barbie has been to many shows and watched her nieces skating and playing softball. She was a champion watcher! She would also keep all of your secrets.
A bright shining light has gone out of our lives. We were given a great gift in being able to spend time with her and say our goodbyes, even though she did not know she was leaving us.
All of the people who loved and her and have gone before her are with her now. Barbie will be well taken care of.
A Celebration of Barbie’s Life will be held on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home with Pastor Marvin Seaborg officiating.
