SHIRLEY ANNE LOINA MALONEY (née: Anderson)
January 7th, 1951 – October 23rd, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Anne Loina Maloney (née: Anderson), who left us peacefully on Thursday, October 23rd, 2025, at 1:45 PM.
Born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Shirley grew up in MacGregor, where she completed her education at MacGregor Collegiate Institute. It was in MacGregor that she met the love of her life, Bill Maloney. They were married on November 13th, 1971, and began their journey together in MacGregor before moving to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where they built a life and home for the past 53 years.
Shirley began her career as an accountant with the Portage Co-op. She also had a long-standing career of over 30 years with Canadays in Moose Jaw, while also providing bookkeeping services to many others. Her skill with a calculator was legendary — her fingers moved with astonishing speed and precision, a testament to her dedication and talent.
Family was the heart of Shirley’s world. She and Bill raised two sons, Kurt and Kevin. Tragically, Kevin passed away in a car accident in 1997, a loss that deeply marked the family. Yet Shirley’s love and generosity never waned. She opened her heart and home to countless others, including the many young men who lived with the Maloneys as billet players from the Moose Jaw Canucks, Triple A and for the Moose Jaw Warriors. To Shirley, each of them was family.
Shirley’s warmth was felt not only through her kindness but also through her cooking. Her famous coleslaw, potato salad, cabbage rolls, and perogies are remembered fondly by all who had the joy of sharing a meal with her. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and love.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ruth (née: Ferris) and Earle Anderson; her beloved son, Kevin; and brother Bill Anderson (Ottawa, ON) in 2012. Shirley is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Maloney; son, Kurt Maloney; granddaughter, Paige Kossick, her husband Marcus and their two boys Axel and Rhoen (Shirley’s great grandchildren); as well as grandson, Connor Ruckaber (Maloney). She also leaves behind her brothers, Ron Anderson (Erickson, MB) and Lyle Anderson (Ottawa, ON); sister, Donna Lee Magnuson (née: Anderson) of Sioux Falls, SD; as well as many nieces and nephews across Canada and the United States.
A very special thank you must be acknowledged for Donna Smith, Shirley’s long-time neighbor and friend. We will be forever thankful for your kindness and support to Shirley.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honour Shirley. Well wishes for the Maloney family can be sent to their home.
In Shirley’s own words: “Live life like there is no tomorrow, love deeply, laugh often, and carry on.”
