DOUGLAS WAYNE MAES

1956 – 2025

Douglas Wayne Maes aged 68 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, surrounded by family.

Doug was born December 31st, 1956, in London, Ontario, and he always said the whole world celebrated his birthday.  Doug grew up on a farm in Mt Brydges, where he learned the value of hard work and giving back.  He went on to own and manage WINMAR Chatham, Moose Jaw and Yorkton.  WINMAR was his second family, and his knowledge and support were invaluable.

WINMAR allowed him to retire early and travel the world with the love of this life, Nicki, visiting over 30 countries.  His other love was golfing, and he enjoyed all of the rounds he played with his many friends.  Doug was able to attend over 300 concerts in his life and his love of music played a big part of the joy in his life.

He was predeceased by his wife, Nicki Tzavaras on April 7th, 2020; parents, Camiel and Yvonne (Grozelle) Maes; brother, Ken Maes; and brother-in-law, John Thyret.  Doug will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Selena Maes (Tim Hawryluk); and stepdaughters, Anna Tzortzis (Kyle Jacques) and Natasha Ratajczak.  He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Aurora Maes, Diezel Cornford, Mya Jacques, Brett McCoy, and Timothy Long.  Doug is survived by his siblings: Linda (Rick) Dennis, Don (Mary) Maes, Sue Maes-Thyret, Betty (Gerry) Pichette, and Mike Maes; sister-in-law, Donna Maes; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held in early July.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s name may be made to the Moose Jaw Food Bank, 270 Fairford St W, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1V6 or your local food bank.  Doug was heavily involved with his local community and helped design and build the new food bank building in memory of his late wife Nicki.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Cara Ashworth, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Sending sincere condolences to the Maes family. Doug ran the Chatham Winmar, where my dad worked while I grew up. Him & Nicki always welcomed me in with open arms, treated me like a grandchild. They were always nothing but kind. I will always have fond memories of the both of them.
    Rest Easy Doug
