FLOYD STANLEY LONGMIRE

(1953 – 2026)

The family of Floyd Stanley Longmire is saddened to announce his passing on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, at the age of 72 years.  Floyd was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on March 2nd, 1953 to Frederick “Fred” and Whilemina Longmire.  Floyd was the younger brother to Fred Jr., and his birth marked the completion of their family.

Floyd grew up in Moose Jaw, going to school at Prince Arthur, and A.E. Peacock.  After school, Floyd enjoyed employment as a custodian for the Moose Jaw School Board, and later, at the Salvation Army.

Floyd was a person of routine – coffee row with friends and relatives was 8:30 – 9:00 a.m., lunch 12 – 1, supper 5 -6 p.m., and bed long before midnight.  He was avid with his fishing, hunting, archery, auction and garage sales, and was always up for a good game of crib.  He was a collector of many interesting things, and treasures; all of which led to good stories for Floyd to share with others.  While Floyd loves to tell stories about his treasures, it was a different situation with his favorite hunting and fishing spots, which he kept as secrets for years.

His home acreage was his pride and joy, which he ensured was always well maintained, turning it into his own personal Garden of Eden.  His love of wildlife shone through in the photographs he took of the deer and cottontail rabbits on his property.  He spent many hours with the wildlife and built their trust, which can be seen through the fact that he was able to feed ground squirrels by hand and would have birds land on the peak of his hat.

In later years, unfortunately Floyd received a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease that took a toll on him in many ways.

He was predeceased by his mother, father, brother, and many aunts and uncles.  Floyd leaves to mourn him: numerous cousins, special friends, stepdaughter, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law.

At this time there will be no funeral service.  A celebration of Floyd’s life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Floyd’s name may be made to Parkinson Canada, 4211 Yonge Street, Suite 316, Toronto, ON M2P 2A9.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

I met Floyd one day when I ask if I could launch my canoe from his bank of the river. He agreed and said, “ why not just use my canoe it’s already down by the river. Feel free to use it whenever you want.” That began a good friendship. I learned to appreciate his love of nature and collecting. I am saddened to learn of his passing and will miss his kind and generous personality.

Floyder was a friend whom I grew up with. My family and his were close. We spent many hours as kids ripping around the open fields near his house. As we entered our teens, we spent many hours doing ….well….other stuff….. but still rippin….. He was always full of mischief and had a great laugh.

I am missing Floyd already. He was never without a smile and banter. He frequently shopped at superstore, and always said hello. What a wonderful man. Hugs to all his family members.
