Wanda Dee Iuon

With great sadness we announce the passing of Wanda Dee Iuon aged 68 years of Moose Jaw, SK, on Sunday, September 14th, 2025.

Wanda was born on June 2nd, 1957, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Chris and Jean Iuon.  Her parents worked for Canada Railway News. The early years took them all over Western Canada, always returning to their home base in Jasper, AB.  Jasper became Wanda’s solace, drawing her back for annual trips to visit with old friends Rose and Fred Wall.  The family eventually moved to Assiniboia, SK before settling in Moose Jaw in 1964.  With a SIAST education, Wanda worked short term at the Town and Country Mall in Moose Jaw prior to starting her 42-year career with Department of Highways.  Her commitment and warmth left a lasting impression, and she formed many lifelong friendships during her career.

Wanda was deeply knowledgeable and passionate about the things that sparked her curiosity — whether it was literature, music, politics, or the pleasures of fine dining, always paired with a glass of wine and a decadent dessert.  Her love for animals was unwavering, especially for her own beloved critters.  That devotion led her to become an active member of both PETA and SCRAPS Moose Jaw, where she championed the protection and welfare of all creatures.  Wanda had zero tolerance for animal cruelty and stood firmly against it in every form.

Her compassion extended far beyond the animal world.  Wanda was fiercely loyal to her friends and co-workers, always making time for those she cared about.  She was the kind of person who would lend a listening ear, offer heartfelt support, and show up when it mattered most.  Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering presence left a lasting impact on everyone lucky enough to know her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Chris and Jean Iuon.  Wanda is survived by her long-time partner, John; cousins: Ken Robinson (Sue), Dale Robinson (Dorothy), Muriel Gieni (Neal), and Karen McKenzie (Kevin); and her fur-babies, including dogs: Opie, Phoebe, Goofy, and Malie, Fred the cat, Fergus the donkey, Jonesy and Linus the horses, and Bertie the house chicken.

In keeping with Wanda’s wishes, no funeral service will be held.  If you wish to honor Wanda, raise a toast to her and enjoy a good meal (including dessert) or do something kind for an animal.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Wanda’s name may be made to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, 1755 Stadacona St W, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7 or SCRAPS through E-Transfer to scraps-mj@hotmail.com.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

I am so sad to read this. Wanda was a good person, I knew her through Judy Havers and I knew of her love for animals. I worked with her father Chris many years ago.

John: sincere condolences from Wanda’s honorary Aunt. I was honoured to be included in the annual delivery of Christmas puddings and sauce. Ron and I will miss the times we visited with you, remembering now sharing our table with you and Wanda at the Rowletta fowl supper. You will have so many memories to share as you mourn Wanda’s passing.
