BARRY WAYNE HILL
August 29th, 1965 – August 2nd, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Wayne Hill, who passed away peacefully at the Moose Jaw Special Care Home in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, surrounded by the love of all of his family. Barry was born August 29th, 1965, and throughout his life brought joy, laughter, and unconditional love to all who knew him. Although he was born with Down Syndrome, Barry never allowed it to define him. He embraced life with enthusiasm, determination, and a heart full of kindness, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Barry grew up on the farm by Boharm, SK. He loved the animals and the wide-open spaces with his dog Jo-Jo beside him, his buddy that always kept an eye on him when exploring. He rode the school bus to Moose Jaw and attended John Chisholm School where he made many friends. Barry was very active and was a proud participant in Special Olympics, winning medals along the way. He competed in floor hockey and track and field. The friendships he made and the accomplishments he achieved through Special Olympics brought him much happiness and pride. A devoted sports fan, Barry was proudly known as #1 fan for the Moose Jaw Warriors, being a season ticket holder for many years. He loved cheering on his favourite team and sharing in the excitement and would also let you know when they lost a game or made a bad play. Barry loved watching wrestling on tv and then trying some of the moves on his nephews. They had a great time with that. He also enjoyed cheering on the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Barry treasured his summers at Camp Thunderbird where he built lifelong friendships and happy memories. He took great pride in the fact that he earned his learners’ drivers license and also enjoyed working at The Subway Esso on Manitoba Street East and later at Diversified Services. Barry valued the opportunity to work, contribute, and be part of his community.
Barry’s greatest gift was his loving heart, warm smile, gentle spirit, and genuine affection for others, touching countless lives. His family will forever cherish the laughter, hugs, and unforgettable memories he gave so freely.
He was predeceased by his grandparents; beloved parents, Donald and Margaret Hill; brother Robin Hill; niece, Nikki Hill; cousins, Mike Parr and Brenda Hill; along with numerous aunts and uncles. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings and their families: sister, Deborah Hill, Andre’ (Karen) Leveille, Marc (Andrea) Leveille; brother, Craig (Gabe) Hill, Tai (Ashley) Hill, Sean (Staci) Hill; sister, Marilyn (Howie) Tighe, Michael Tighe, Brad (Emily) Tighe, Melissa (Kellyn) Bollinger; sister-in-law, Lorie Hill, Cody (Lindsey) Hill, Jesse (Erin) Hill, Leroy Hill, Kali Jameson, Aaron (Bailey) Hill, Shane Hill, and Emma Hill; sister, Elaine (Sheldon) Williams, Jerred (Jacqueline) Williams, Brett (Amanda) Williams, Troy (Krysta) Williams; 38 great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-nephew; aunts: Norma-Jean Trammell, Mary Hill, and Rita Psikla; as well as many cousins and their families.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers and support workers Barry had in his life. All of your kindness and compassion did not go unnoticed. A very special thank you to Citizens All Association, and we can’t thank the Moose Jaw Special Care Home enough for the special care Barry received. Your care and friendship meant the world to Barry and to our family.
A private celebration of life will be held to honour both Barry and his beloved mother, Margaret Hill, who passed away in March of this year. Together they shared a lifetime of love, and together they will be lovingly remembered and celebrated by those who knew them best. May all that knew Barry remember him with a smile, and a fond memory. Such a sweet young man, so happy and appreciative of life itself. I was Barry’s floor hockey coach for several years in the 80’s & 90’s. We travelled all over Saskatchewan representing the “Moose Jaw Bruins.” Barry was always good for some goals in a tourney; his specialty was picking up rebounds in the slot, and simply roofing them for us. Good times! He was one-half of the “Mighty Mights” along with Randy Luzny.

Very true Mark, Barry was a wonderful person, always happy and always ready to play. We had many great times with the floor hockey team ( Bruins), and Barry making up one half of the mighty mights always brings a smile to my face! I do remember those top shelf goals and the confident smile that followed! So many wonderful memories..

To all Barry’s family: We are so very sorry to hear of his passing. Barry certainly did leave a lasting impression on me and I think of him fondly. Barry was one of the kids, not singled out in any way and all credit to his family for 100% inclusion way before it was popular. His smile was infectious – Rest in Peace Barry.

He loved to see Barry showing up with a tie (sometimes his tie was wrapped around his head). Barry was a beautiful soul who will be missed by all who knew him.
