Jean Edna Herring

It is with deep sadness that the family of Jean Edna Herring (Barton) announce her passing on the 23rd of July 2025 at the age of 88.

Jean was born on the 8th of Nov 1936 in Ormiston, Sk. She was predeceased by her father, Robert (Bert”) Barton; sister, Mae (Ralph) Sinclair, and mother Dorothy (Chester) Rice.

Jean was beloved by many, having an infectious grin and a sweet nature, she welcomed many friends into her inner circle. She had a love of song and dance. Her beautiful voice was shared with family and friends, singing alongside her beloved Uncle Harral. She had incredible talent for sewing, spent time as a seamstress, upholstering furniture, and found a love of quilting in her later years. Many of her creations were shared with those she loved.

The family cannot express how grateful we are to all the people who were there for Mom in her last years. A special thank you to Michael Ferguson and Ingrid DeWalt who went above and beyond.

Jean is survived by her husband, James; their children: Steve (Phyllis) Herring, Michael Herring, Diane (Timothy) Gass, Cindy (Vernon) Stevens; grandchildren: Kenneth (Amy) Herring, Kara Bastarache, Lindsey Stevens, Kyle Stevens, great grandchild May Bastarache and brother, Wayne (Sharon) Barton,   as well as other family, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who she loved dearly.

A graveside memorial service for Jean will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Sunset Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s name may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society Box 1658 Station Main Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Shirese Noble Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Sending our condolences to all of the family as they mourn the loss of Jean. I am often reminded of her when her flowering plum tree blossoms. We purchased their farm and gained so many great friends.

Our deepest condolences to Jim and Jean’s whole family. I always enjoyed looking at Jean’s latest quilting projects. She also was our local school bus driver for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I knew Jean back in the very early 70’s, we rented a suite from her. I later babysat for her when she worked. A most wonderful woman who I’ve never forgotten the kindness she showed all of us. My condolences to all who knew and loved Jean.
