Bertha Henderson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bertha Henderson on Saturday, August 15th, 2026, at the age of 92 years.  

Bertha was born on May 7th, 1934, the second of five children born to Herman and Mary Moller.  She grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, where she met Philip Schuett.  They married in 1952 and made their home in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where Bertha would remain for the rest of her life.  Together they raised six children: Mike, Marion, Shelly, Dennis, Patti, and Pam.  

In 1978, Bertha met Bill Henderson, and they married shortly afterward.  With their marriage came an even larger family, and Bertha warmly welcomed Bill’s children: Bruce, Joan, and Lloyd.  Over the years, their blended family continued to grow, eventually blessing them with 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.  

Bertha had a generous heart and a deep commitment to her faith and community.  For more than 20 years, she volunteered as an Area Coordinator for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and generously supported many other charities throughout her life.  

Her Catholic faith was an important part of who she was.  Bertha was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for an extraordinary 75 years and gave countless hours to her church.  She served on the funeral lunch committee and as décor chair for many years, sewed church banners and vestments for the priests, and lovingly made baptismal shawls for babies being welcomed into the church.  

Her beautiful garden provided fresh flowers that she arranged into bouquets for the church altars.  Bertha was also a wonderful cook and baker, known for her generosity in sharing both.  She took great pride in preparing meals and baked goods for family and friends, and at Christmas she created trays of assorted goodies that she lovingly delivered to neighbours, friends, and extended family.  Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of baking, and her food was one of the many ways she showed care and hospitality to those around her.  

An exceptionally talented and accomplished seamstress and needleworker, she knitted, crocheted, cross-stitched, and created beautiful pieces of Hardanger and Battenburg lace, along with many other forms of intricate handwork.  She took great pride` in these traditional skills and generously shared her knowledge by teaching others, helping ensure these beautiful and increasingly rare arts would be carried on.  

Above all, Bertha’s greatest legacy is the family she helped create and the many lives she touched throughout her 92 years.  From her children through five generations of family, and through decades of service to her church and community, she leaves behind a remarkable legacy of faith, generosity, creativity and love.  

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and by all those whose lives were made a little richer by knowing her.

The Funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 25th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Parish, 1064 3rd Ave NW in Moose Jaw.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Cara Ashworth, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
