Brent Merrill Hanna

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Brent Merrill Hanna aged 71 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on Wednesday, March 18th, 2026 at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital, with his wife by his side after a year long fight with an auto immune disease.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ernie and Joan; son, Jordan; brother, John; and in-laws, Leo and Ann Fichter.  Brent is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan; daughter, Jennifer (Al); grandsons: Kaleb (Paige), Kolby (Tiana), and Kooper; his twin sister, Barbara Hanna; sister, Pat Armstrong; sisters-in-laws, Cindy (Don) McMorris and Darcy Thiesen; nephews: Brenden, Royce, Troy, Riley, Dustin, Craig, and Mark; as well as numerous other relatives.

Brent was born and raised in Regina, SK and attended Sheldon Williams until he was hired on the railroad.  He started in the shops in Regina and transferred to the running trades as a brakeman, conductor, and then an engineer.  He retired in 2010 after a 37-year career with CP Rail.  He was the ultimate railroader and loved his job and the guys he worked with.

Brent was a storyteller, history buff, and a life-long Detroit Red Wings fan.  He played slo-pitch until he was 65 and enjoyed golfing here and in Arizona.  He loved playing the horses and would study the program for hours.  Brent was a social person and with his quick wit, became a friend to many.

A Celebration of Brent’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 28th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Those not able to attend may view the service by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Brent’s name may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7 or Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 55 Diefenbaker Drive, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 0C2.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

I am very sorry to hear of Brent’s passing. His contagious smile and indomitable spirit made working with Brent an absolute pleasure.

He always had time for everybody, at least enough to make you smile before he carried on about his business.

Thank you for the time you spent making people smile Brother. We are all at a loss with your passing.

Good bye Brent, Rest in peace.

Susan I am so sorry for your loss. Brent was a great person and knew how to put a smile on everyone’s face. I will miss seeing Brent for our brief but very entertaining time we had at Terry and Donna’s at the lake. My very sincere condolences to you and your family.

This truly broke my heart. I thought the world of your Brent he was always the bright smile and laughter at the Modern family Restaurant. I remember when I got to meet his better half Susan many years ago. I thought of both you on many occasions. I had hoped to reconnect have that coffee with both of you. Crazy how time flies. Many prayers and thoughts sent your way and hugs. I am so sorry for your families loss.

Lots of fond memories at the Modern in Swift.
