Michael John Gilmore
On Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Michael John Gilmore passed away peacefully, with his son Adrian by his side.
Mike was born on the May 17th, 1947 in Harlepool, England. He will be remembered for his sense of adventure, his powerful voice, singing Irish and folk ballads of Shane MacGowan and the Clancy Brothers, mandolin and banjo picking, his love of stories and poetry, and his sublime conversation and sense of humour.
Mike was a dedicated volunteer and fundraiser for various groups that his children were involved in, such as Moose Jaw Youth Soccer, Moose Jaw Wrestling Club, White Hackle Pipe Band, Regina Rams, Regina Symphony, and Church of Our Lady Parish. Mike loved to travel and seek new adventures, exploring the world for work and pleasure, from New York City, Australia, Hawaii, New Zealand, Russia, Europe, Sierra Leone Africa, to crisscrossing Canada and the United States. He had a special fondness for his eldest son Ciaran’s home on Vancouver Island.
Mike became a Red Seal Journeyman Bricklayer and immigrated to Canada after meeting his wife, Kathleen Doherty, in London during the hip 1960’s cultural scene that formed The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd. Mike taught Masonry at Saskatchewan Polytechnic while earning a master’s degree from the University of Regina.
He was predeceased by his parents, Henry Patrick Gilmore and Gertrude Gilmore; sisters, Teresa Giles and Sheila Gilmore; and brother-in-law, Bob Boyd. Mike is survived by his wife, Kathleen; son, Ciaran (Raelene); grandchildren: Aibhne, Waylon, Juniper, and Hugh; son, Adrian (Ruby Rosenbach); daughter, Carey; grandsons, Oliver and Charlie; sister, Maureen Boyd; niece, Siobhan; sister, Rosheen; nieces, Ciara and Saoirse; brother, Sean (Janet); brother-in-law, Ian Giles; nephews, Daniel and Rory; as well as numerous other relatives.
Mike was immensely proud of his family’s achievements and adored his grandchildren. He was also proud of his father’s military service, who served in WW2 as a gunner on destroyer battleships. Mike’s father was also a professional soccer player for Queens Park Rangers before the war. Mike was also proud of his own service in the Royal British Parachute Regiment.
Rest Easy Mick, you lived a life. We will miss you dad…

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Michael Gilmore. Mike was a huge personality whose ability to find the humor was a delight.
Fortunately I worked where Mike worked. For a time we crossed paths daily. Laughter was a core of our times together.
