Sharon Ann Garner
With her family by her side, Sharon Ann Garner drew her final breath on a beautiful life in the morning of Thursday, November 20th, 2025, one week shy of her 85th birthday. Sharon Ann Floyd was born to Lowe and Ollie Floyd (née: Smail) on November 27th, 1940. She grew up on the family farm in the Belbeck district and was blessed to call it home for the majority of her 85 years. Sharon attended Carmel School and Central Collegiate and after graduation, she followed the family tradition of working at Robin Hood and then at the hospital in the dietary department. She married Jim Garner on May 20th, 1961 and they began their great adventure together. Brian arrived in 1964 and the three of them spent early years in Vancouver and then Prince George, BC, where Sheryl completed the family unit in 1969. They moved back to the prairies in 1970 and settled into rural life once again, first in the ‘little house’ and then onto the Floyd family farm in 1974. Sharon and Jim moved into Moose Jaw full time in 2017 enjoying their suite downtown, and later, the community at West Park Crossing.
Sharon loved country life and made the hard work required seem effortless. She could do anything and kept a beautiful home and garden, was a great cook, sewed clothes, looked after animals, ran equipment at seeding and harvest, worked part time at Fanny’s Fabrics, and later at Pioneer Lodge. For Sharon, there was always time for fun. The stories of the lake parties are legendary and whether it was 4-H, bowling, curling and skating at the Tuxford rink, playing slo-pitch, Grey Cup parties, camping, dances, or simply sitting around the fire pit with friends and family, there was always laughter. Sharon and Jim travelled with friends to many US destinations for Shriner events and car shows, on cruises, and to Mexico and Cuba. Family travels took them to Scotland twice where Sharon was eager to connect to her roots. She was creative and enjoyed all types of fancy work and quilting. Her kids and grandkids have beautiful quilts that will be treasured forever.
Left to miss her everyday are her husband of 64 years, Jim Garner; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Shelly Garner; daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and David Parry; grandchildren: Logan (Theresa), Rebecca, Desiree (Adam), Sheena (Daniel), and Jana (Chuck); as well as five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Sharon will also be missed terribly by her brothers, Don (Elaine) Floyd and Ray (Tamia) Floyd; sister, Darleen Nowlan; sisters-in-law, Winnie Black and Peggie Bushell; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.
A Celebration of Sharon’s Life will be held on Thursday, November 27th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Harvey Room at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Sharon loved all animals but especially cats and dogs, so in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
Jim, Brian, Sheryl and Families; We were saddened to hear of Sharon’s passing. We hope the many wonderful memories you have will sustain you during these difficult days. We send our deepest condolences to all of her Family.
Condolences on the passing of Sharon Garner. George and Agnes (Smail) came from Ontario, ending up on the 8 Mile Road north of Moose Jaw. My Grandfather Bruce Lamb, son of George, lived in Belbeck and ran various businesses there until moving to Moose Jaw. The Garner family had a band, they performed in Belbeck I remember when I was young (also remembered by Les Cochrane whose mother (Wynn) grew up south of Belbeck, Les married Judy Crozier).
Sincere Sympathy to Jim, Brian, Sheryl and families. Sharon was a special friend, Gary & I have many happy memories together over a long number of years. Sharon will be sadly missed by many, but she shared so much happiness & joy we will all hold close. Rest in peace Sharon.
My condolences to Jim and the family on your loss.
Sorry to hear of Sharon’s death
