Garry Wayne Freeman
It is with great sadness that the family of Garry Wayne Freeman, aged 78 of Moose Jaw, announces his peaceful passing on October 14th, 2026.
Garry was born April 12th, 1948 to Percy (Jim) and Thelma Freeman. He lived in the city as a young boy before moving to the country with his family. Growing up he worked alongside his father, where he developed his lifelong strong work ethic. Garry attended Westmount School and Riverview Collegiate. Before starting his 35 year career with the Dept of Hwys, Garry worked at the Avonlea Grain Elevator, Pittsburg Glass and CP Rail. Garry was definitely a jack of all trades and could fix or build just about anything and he had the tool collection to prove it! To say he was a hard worker would be an understatement and taking pride in the upkeep of the acreage kept him busy over the years. He was always in the yard doing something or in the shop tinkering away. Garry was well known for his humour and quick wit and was always joking around whether it was teasing someone or pulling a prank, Garry was always quick to laugh.
He was a wild child from the get go, loved muscle cars, motorbikes, snowmobiles and anything he could race! He owned many fast cars over the years but his favorite was his 1972 Dodge Charger. Hard to believe it but this was the family car for many years, he even put his aluminum fishing boat on the roof and pulled a camper with it! Garry and Deborah were highschool sweethearts and were married Nov 14th, 1970. This is when their love of travelling started. They loved being outside and active. Fishing trips up north with family and motorcycle trips to the mountains or Sturgis with his brothers and brother- in- laws were an annual occurrence. Ski trips and camping trips with family and friends were another highlight and many special memories were made over the years. The couple took many cruises over the years travelling to Alaska, Jamaica, the Bahamas and the Panama Canal. Family trips were made to Disneyland, Disney World and Mexico. Garry and Debbie were always together.
Garry was a dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to all. A constant supporter of his daughters’ sports games and horse events and was always willing to help out or volunteer when needed.
Garry is predeceased by his parents Percy and Thelma Freeman, mother- in- law Shirley Chilson(Gord), father- in- law Allen Hutchinson (Joy), brother- in- law Blaine Hutchinson and sister- in- law Valerie Gorin.
Garry is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Deborah, daughters Kim (Kelly Collins) and Krista (Bill Duncan), granddaughters Ava and Katie. Garry is also survived by his siblings Donna Freeman, David (Melanie) Freeman, Brian (Glenda) Freeman and Ramona Freeman, sister- in- law Peggy Hutchinson and brother- in- law Kerry (Anita) Hutchinson. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Throughout his courageous battle with cancer and Parkinson’s, Garry showed incredible strength and his trademark stubbornness – he never complained once and faced every challenge with quiet determination. He never lost his sense of humour and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A special thank you goes out to Dr. Geyer and Dr. Sanderson for their exceptional care. To all the Palliative and Home Care personnel for their kindness and support and to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre for their compassion and care.
A Celebration of Garry’s life will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Remember the good times and he’ll always be with you. Thoughts and prayers for all of you.
On behalf of the Erickson family, I would like to pass on our condolences to Deborah, Kim, Krista, and the rest of Garry’s family and friends. We used to live across the ally from them and spent many good times together even going on the northern fishing trips. I hope you can take some comfort in all of the great memories you all have with Garry. RIP Garry.
Most sincere condolences to all the Freeman families in the passing of Garry
