JERROLD ALAN DELAHEY

August 13th, 1936 – May 19th, 2025

Knowing his final crop had been seeded and a gentle rain was falling, Jerrold Alan Delahey passed away on Monday, May 19th, 2025, in his 89th year.

He was predeceased by his parents, Reg and Verna de la Hey; sisters: Lois Carter, Mavis Byford, and Dorita Wheatley; and son-in-law, Perry Luchia.  Jerrold is survived by his brother, Arthur (Liz) Delahey; his wife of 67 years, Barbara; daughter, Sandra Luchia (Wayne Chubey) and her children Kyle Luchia (Hayley McMeekin and great-granddaughter Iyla), Kurt Luchia (Jennifer and great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Adele) and Avery Luchia; son, Dave (Karen) Delahey and their children Robyn Delahey (Cody Holzapfel and great-grandchildren, Lukas and Kate), Matt Delahey (Gillian Pinder and great-granddaughter, Kier), Jena Paquin (Brad Paquin and great-grandsons Carter and Cameron), Morgan Delahey (J.C. Ayque), and son, Scott (Lynn) Delahey and their children Brittany Delahey (Francis Roy and great-grandson Thomas), Connor Delahey, and Gavin Delahey.

Jerrold was born August 13th, 1936, on the family farm, east of Tuxford, SK.  He attended “Blofield”, a one room school, as well as Moose Jaw Technical High School.  Since agriculture was his passion, Jerrold returned to the farm to work with his father.  In 1957 he began a 20-year career at the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant.  That same year while on a trip to Calgary, AB, Jerrold met Barbara Cowan on a blind date.  They were married November 15th, 1958.  Lucky for him she was well acquainted with farm life and hard work!  In 1973, Jerrold and Barb started their purebred Charolais herd, known as Chardel Charolais.  They spent 30 years showing cattle across western Canada.  During those years, Jerrold served as President of the Canadian Charolais Association and travelled to Brazil, Sweden, the UK, and Australia.  In 1998, Jerrold and Barb were awarded “Farmers of the Year”.  In 2008, Jerrold retired and became Dave’s consultant on all things farming.  He could often be found touring highways 202, 301, and the backroads, checking in on the crops.

Jerrold and Barb spent 16 winters in Arizona where he discovered his second passion, floor shuffleboard.  He played locally at the Cosmo and Eatons and was a member of the Saskatchewan Shuffleboard Association.  Jerrold and Barb enjoyed vacations to New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, and the Panama Canal.  They enjoyed hosting each of their children and their families for Christmas holidays in Arizona, treating them to local sites and always a day to barter in Algodones, MX!

More than anything, Jerrold enjoyed spending time with his family.  Over the years, many reunions were held at the farm, welcoming his siblings and their families.  Stories were told and many laughs were shared.  He was a keen supporter of his 10 grandchildren, attending more sporting events than one can imagine!  In recent years, Jerrold very much enjoyed spending time with his 9 great-grandchildren.

Jerrold was the caretaker of St. Columba, the “little white church” on Hwy 202, for many years.  There, he will be laid to rest during a private family ceremony.

Barbara and family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of the Medical Floor at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their kindness, care and compassion shown to Jerrold and our family.  The family would also like to thank all the staff at West Park Crossing where Jerrold and Barb have resided since 2023.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerrold’s memory may be made to the St Columba Cemetery Fund, ℅ PO Box 1114 Stn Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 4P8 or to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 55 Diefenbaker Drive, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 0C2.

“Bye for now.”

Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
