Mon Chey (Yeay)

Mon Chey (Yeay), aged 72 years of Moose Jaw, SK passed away on Monday, September 9th, 2019 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK.  Mon was born in Kampong Speu Cambodia on May 17th, 1947.  Mon completed her high school in Cambodia.  She married Ros Nhim in 1969 and together they had 5 children.  Mon and her husband worked as farmers to support their family up until the civil war in Cambodia in 1975.  Mon and her children fled to Thailand in 1979 to escape the conflict, and they became separated from her husband during the civil war.  She lived in Thailand until 1990 when she and her children were sponsored by the First Free Methodist Church in Moose Jaw, with the help of her close friends Rong Uy, Pon Sek, and Mr. & Mrs. McIver.  Mon lived in Moose Jaw until her passing. Mon was very loving, giving, caring and kind, and her children and grandchildren were the center of her world. She loved every single one of them so much. She loved to feed and cook for people, with her signature dish being “Yeay” spring rolls.  Mon loved to spend her time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed travelling with her family, with her favourite method of travel being by cruise ship. Her most memorable trip was to go back to see her family in Cambodia. She was predeceased by her father, Aim Chey; mother, Kim Chey; brother, Chey; and son, Naim Khath.  Mon will be sadly missed by her former spouse, Ros Nhim; children: Kimmuy Atkinson (Jeremy), Sam Khath, Nath Khath (Sharon), and Hoy Chey-Hill (Dustin); grandchildren: Shailynn Atkinson, Alex Atkinson, Evan Atkinson, Josie Hill, Riley Hill, and Hudson Hill; as well as her grand-dogs, Zoey and Luckie.  The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church, 60 Hochelaga St W, Moose Jaw, SK.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Mon’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Michelle Surtees, Funeral Director 306-693-4550.

To Sam and the rest of the family, please accept my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your beautiful mother and grandmother.
I only knew her thru Brady, but everything I heard about her made me admire her.
She was a strong woman and I know you will pass her strength on down through the family by sharing stories of her with them. Thinking of you all.

What a beautiful picture of your Mom. She was always a pleasure to run into or see, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother which I seen first hand. Never wanted any babysitter or Daycare to watch her grand kids even at times when her arthritis was flared up she still managed to take care of business, she made the best spring rolls. I know that. She had a good sense of humor always would have a few laughs when we would see each other. You will be missed dearly Mon Chey, by your Dear Family and friends, you rest in peace now, you are so deserving. May God Bless you.

What an amazing person! I had the pleasure of being on a few trips with her and she never slowed down. Kept walking and walking with the rest of us just enjoying travelling and seeing the world. Her heart of gold always kept giving and loving. Her spring rolls were the best ever. I will miss you Mon.
