Jody Chell

Jody Chell aged 50 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Saturday, May 31st, 2025.  Jody was born in 1974 in Thompson, Manitoba, with her younger brother, Toban Chell, arriving a few years later.  Jody is survived by her daughter, Samantha Nestman; father, Tim Chell; brother, Toban Chell; her best friend, Ivan Hicks; as well as many beloved extended family members and friends.

Jody’s life lit up when her daughter Samantha was born.  She gained a new sense of purpose and a strong motherly instinct, absolutely loving the experience of caring for her and watching her grow up.

Jody was an incredibly headstrong woman, always knowing exactly what she wanted and how she was going to achieve it.  She earned multiple diplomas, including one in Web Design and another in Occupational Health & Safety.  She recently completed a degree in Indigenous social work.  Jody had a deep love for helping people and brought joy to others through her involvement in the community and various volunteer roles.

Jody’s passion for animals and children shone throughout her life.  She worked with both at different times, helping children and fostering cats.  She absolutely hated seeing people feel alone — she made it a point to offer warmth and companionship wherever she could.

Jody’s selflessness will be forever remembered and cherished, continued by the legacy of her daughter.

A Memorial Service will be held in Moose Jaw with details being announced closer to the date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the fundraiser that has been set up for her daughter Samantha: https://gofund.me/4c5dd20f.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

I remember Jody as a student at Empire School in the 80’s. I was able to reconnect when she became the webmaster for the MJ Band and Choral Festival. She was very committed to her work and she had a heart of gold.

Jody and I got aquainted while she was working with the food services at Saskatchewan Roughrider game at Taylor Field -OG / Mosaic Stadium. She was so shy when it came to the players being in her presence and it seemed that Ricky Foley was the one player that really made her blush. I appreciated Jody’s strength when it came to her community and Moose Jaw was a great fit whether she was driving the trolley for visitors, building at Catio or keeping her eye on politics. My heart is sad. Thinking of you Sam.

Jody loved her daughter and worried about her. ( as all Moms do)She loved her feline friends and spoiled them with a catico so they could get outside but not wander off. We had her sign on our lawn when she ran for council. She did a lot of volunteer work for SCRAPS here in Moose Jaw. She would burn the midnight oil working on an essay due re some course or other and eat doughnuts while doing so. I sort of Mother Henned her trying to get her to eat some fruit, instead and have some milk & toast. She told funny stories re driving the Bad Intentions bus. I hope her cats have good homes to go to. You can give my email address to Ivan Hicks and her Dad,Tim Chell.. I cried when I read her obit…I would like to be in touch with them. God Bless.
