Loraine Alice Chase
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Nanny, Loraine Alice Chase, on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025.
Loraine was born on February 27th, 1942, in Moose Jaw, SK to Wilford and Irene Chase (née: Berg). She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Pierre Morissette, her newborn daughter Victoria Parry, and her son-in-law Kevin Bickford.
Loraine is survived by her daughter, Deanna Bickford; son, David (Sheryl) Parry; and grandchildren: Crystal (Ben) Rogers, Victoria Fortune, and Josh (Tara) Bickford. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Riely Bickford, Brielle Rogers, Chase Rogers, Illianna Fortune, Jesiah Jack-Bickford, Nyah Jack-Bickford, and Skye Jack-Bickford. Also left to cherish her memory are her stepdaughters: Julienne (Tyler) Morissette, Nicole Morissette, and France Morissette.
Loraine attended William Grayson School and Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw before leaving school after Grade 10 to attend Marvel Beauty School in Regina, SK. She began her hairdressing career at The Hollywood in Moose Jaw, saving money to fulfill her dream of traveling the world.
Her travels took her to Israel, Hawaii, and Hong Kong, where she met Max Parry, a member of the British Navy. They married in Hong Kong and later settled in Edinburgh, Scotland, before returning to Moose Jaw to start a family. Together they had three children: Victoria (deceased as a newborn), Deanna, and David. Loraine had a deep love for children and opened her home to many foster children over the years. She was also active in her community as a Girl Guide leader and a supporter of the local Scouts at the Hochelaga Hall.
In 1980, Loraine earned her pilot’s license, an incredible accomplishment that reflected her adventurous spirit.
In 1982, she returned to hairdressing and co-founded Total Image Salon on Woodlily Drive with her close friend Joyce Razvi. Loraine was a gifted stylist who earned numerous awards at both national and international competitions. She also worked as a colour expert, traveling throughout Western Canada to train other professionals and troubleshoot challenging cases.
It was through her salon that she met Pierre Morissette. A few dinners, drives, and dances blossomed into a loving relationship, and they were married in 1995. After retiring, Loraine and Pierre traveled extensively across Canada and the U.S. in their motorhome and spent many joyful winters in Hawaii.
In her 60s, Loraine took up motorcycling and enjoyed taking trips with family and friends. She took great pleasure, and so did Riely, picking Riely up from school on ‘Nanny’s motorcycle’. After Pierre’s passing, she continued to travel with Deanna and Kevin, enjoying many camping adventures and international trips to Tanzania, the Netherlands, Mexico, Hawaii, and across Canada and the U.S.
Loraine was also a talented artist. Her family treasures the paintings and stained-glass pieces she lovingly created. Her creativity also shone through in the theatre group at Pasqua, where she acted in several productions. She passed down her signature recipes — cabbage rolls, lefse, and wontons — through special workdays where the whole family came together to make them by the hundreds.
Loraine’s spirit, creativity, and deep love for her family will be missed more than words can express.
A Celebration of Loraine’s Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Providence Place Foundation for Maguire Centre or Recreation Therapy, 100 – 2nd Ave NE, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1B8. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
My condolences to Loraine’s family. I got to know Loraine during our time together doing the Pasqua dinner theatres. She would pick me up on the way out of town and have me cracking up with laughter before we hit the outskirts. I treasured those drives!
My mother-in-law and father-in-law, Iona and Ron Gadd, considered Loraine one of the best (and she was!!) I hope they’re all together sharing a good laugh and Loraine and Iona are back to giving inanimate objects people names.
Dave, Deanna and families my deepest condolences on the loss of your mom. She was a force to be reckoned with.
Deanna and family, I am sorry to read of Loraine’s passing. She was a wonderful person and you will have lots of memories to comfort you in the days ahead. Peace and healing to you all.
Deanna, David and families, we extend our sympathy for loss. Loraine was a very special lady and will be missed by those whose life she touched.
