Joseph Alfred “Al” Chaisson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Joseph Alfred “Al” Chaisson, who passed away on Saturday, March 21st, 2026, at the age of 76 years.

He had a deep love for his family, which was at the center of his life, and he will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Stacey (Cory) and Sheena (Wayne), and his cherished grandchildren, Kieran and Avery.  He was a proud and devoted father and grandfather, and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren — whether that meant fishing with Kieran or letting Avery take the wheel of his golf cart.

Born in Alberton and raised on “Smit Road” in Prince Edward Island, Alphy Meme spent much of his early years palling around with his cousins, the Leffies and the Jose Bens, forming the strong family connections he carried throughout his life.  In 1980, he moved to Saskatchewan to begin his nursing career at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital.  It was there that Alphy became known to many as Al, building a life and career in the community he would serve for over 30 years.

As one of the few male nurses at the time, Al became well known and deeply respected.  We often joked that we could hardly go anywhere with him without someone stopping to say, “Hey, you nursed my…” which was a true reflection of the care and connection he brought to his work.

Al enjoyed the simple things in life: fishing, golfing, and sharing wings and beers at Bugsy’s with his niece Shelda and her partner Clayton.  After retirement, he spent many happy days at the Lynbrook Golf Club, where he could often be found enjoying the game and the company.

Al was also deeply connected to his Acadian heritage and was actively involved with the local Métis Society, where he taught Michif for many years.

He maintained strong ties to his family in Prince Edward Island and made it a priority to stay connected, whether through regular phone calls in both French and English or through his annual visits.  His trips to PEI were a highlight each year, and we will certainly miss the tradition of his famous jarred lobster that he would bring back to share.

Al will be remembered for his warmth, his sense of humour, and the way he made people feel seen and cared for.  He was a fun and loving father, and we will miss him deeply.

In keeping with Al’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service.  Those who knew him are invited, in his memory, to enjoy an order of honey garlic wings and a beer, or a round of golf.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7 or the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 55 Diefenbaker Drive, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 0C2.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Shirese Noble Funeral Director 306-693-4550

My sincere condolences to Al’s Family. I first met Al while volunteering at The Mae Wilson Theatre, working the Bar, what fun we had, him, myself and Nancy, chatting and serving our customers, before and after the Performances. When our paths crossed after, was always a friendly ‘hello’. Such a nice person.
    Rest in Peace, Al.

We met in PEI and I had the honour of introducing him to our first cousins! Although we planned to meet again in August 2025, poor health prevented him from returning to Tignish, PEI. Heartfelt condolences to Stacey and Sheena and family. I met Al 46 years ago when asked to orientate him to the Medical Ward. That was the start of a lasting friendship, always remembered with a birthday and Christmas cards, just to stay in touch. Al was a remarkable, one-of-a-kind co-worker, his patients and their families truly loved him. Hope heaven abounds with golf courses and fishing holes. Cheers, Mon Ami.
