Dennis Gordon Carter

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis Gordon Carter on Saturday, April 18th, 2026 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.  Although we knew the moment was coming and your wings were ready, our hearts were not.

Dennis was born the youngest of four siblings on Saturday, July 21st, 1962 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK to Kathleen Linnen and Vaughn Carter.  He grew up in Saskatoon, where he met his honorary big brother, Chris Phippard through BBBS.  In 1974 his family moved to Moose Jaw, where he truly grew into his nickname of “Dennis the Menace” during his teenage years, which were filled with fast cars and heading up the stage crew for the productions at Peacock while he was there.

Dennis met his wife Jean in 1974 and in true teenage fashion, they began seeing each other in an on and off again relationship.  While they were not perfect, their love was solidified over the tragedy of losing their first son, Daniel in August 1985.  They married in June 1986 and welcomed their first daughter, Sabrina in May 1987, their son Daryl in January 1989, and their final daughter, Cassandra in March 1990.

Although he never accomplished his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot for the air force, Dennis did become a very good cook and manager, and he worked for many restaurants in Moose Jaw before moving to BC in 1994.  There, he continued his managerial career for various places including the River Boat Casino in New Westminster.  When his wife passed away in December 2013, Dennis made the difficult decision to leave the mountains he had made his home and return to Saskatchewan, where he worked as a manager at Walmart until his health issues began in 2018.  He fought every day until the very last one.

Many of Dennis’ days since 2022 were spent with his Canada Strong Word Scape Crew that gave him some much-needed distraction as their virtual bartender that always had a witty comeback.  Thank you for becoming his extended virtual family.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jean; sons, Daniel and Daryl; parents, Kathleen (Harold) Linnen and Vaughn (Cecilia) Carter; sister, Marilyn Carter; and other family members.  Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sabrina Carter and Cassandra Carter; grandchildren: Jaelynn, Daniel, Teagan, and Calleigh; great-grandson, Stetson; brothers, Ron (Linda) and Wayne (Gio); “sister” niece, Mavis (David) Evans; as well as other extended family.

Thank you to Dr. Ali and the staff of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre in Regina, SK and the Palliative Care teams in Swift Current and Moose Jaw.

A Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held on Saturday, May 9th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Shirese Noble Funeral Director 306-693-4550

It’s hard to put into words the loss of someone who felt so present in our lives, even from across the world. From Australia (where I am) to Canada, our connection may have started through a game, but it quickly became so much more than that.
As a member of the Canada Strong Wordscape crew with Den (as we knew him) from the beginning, I will miss his quick wit, his energy and his knowledge. The team will never be the same without him.
Den had a way of bringing people together — no matter the distance, time zones, or backgrounds. His humour lifted our spirits, his enthusiasm kept us going, and his presence made even the simplest moments feel special. What started as words on a screen turned into genuine friendships, and that’s something truly rare.
Though we never met in person, the impact he had was real and lasting. I will always be grateful for the laughs, the conversations, and the sense of belonging he created for all of us.
Rest easy, Den. You’ll always be part of the team.

Thank you so much for these beautiful words. Being able to read what you and the team have said has been so heart warming and been amazing. Thank you

I’d like to send my condolences to the entire Carter family. I knew Dennis back in the 80’s. He was part of our social clan back in the day.
    Rest in peace Dennis.
