Raymond (Ray) Butz
October 1, 1930 – June 19, 2025
With busy hands, a quick wit, and a heart full of love, Ray Butz left this world the same way he lived in it—deeply loved, respected, a man of faith, and remembered with a smile.
Born on October 1, 1930, on the family farm near Southey Saskatchewan, Ray was the beloved son of Julianna and John Butz. From an early age, Ray was known for his tireless work ethic and generous spirit. If something needed fixing, moving, building—or laughing about—he was your man.
Ray married the love of his life, Agnes, with whom they shared 59 unforgettable years and a home filled with love, laughter, music, dancing, and the joyful chaos of raising five beautiful children. Their love story was one built on mutual respect, good humour, and an unshakeable bond. Together, they created countless memories, including family road trips and vacations where everyone sang along to 8-track tapes—voices blending in harmony with laughter and the hum of the highway, creating a soundtrack of love and togetherness to be cherished forever.
Ray’s philosophy in life was simple and steadfast: “Do the job right, or don’t do it at all.” It guided everything he did—from raising his family to building his business. A jack of all trades, Ray made his living (and many friends) owning and operating Butz Moving Ltd., a company that quite literally moved the foundations of Saskatchewan. Whether relocating homes, buildings, or lifting someone’s spirits with a joke or story, Ray did it all with skill and heart.
Ray’s legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren—and yes, even great-great-grandchildren—each of whom he counted as his greatest pride and joy. He teased them endlessly, loved them fiercely (always making sure they knew it), and left them with many memories full of warmth and laughter.
He will be remembered for his large hands, ticklish feet, the most beautiful sky blue eyes, a booming laugh, his endless stories, and the way he always made time—for a task, a friend, a neighbour, or a hug.
Ray was welcomed into eternal rest by his beloved wife Agnes, his parents John and Julianna, brothers Wilfred, Edwin, and Harvey, sisters Gladys, Grace, and Lillian, and sons-in-law Sandy Coulter and Blair Palmer.
He leaves behind a legacy of love in his children: Pam Palmer, Wendy (Clifford) Keeler, Grant Butz, Sandi Coulter (Ken), Trevor (Sherry) Butz; grandchildren: Scott (Tammy) Palmer, Derek (Jodi) Keeler, Stefanie Palmer (Scotty), Marci (Jared) Sweet, Rylee (Chris) Day, Mackenzie Butz (Levi), Landon Coulter and Lee Coulter; great-grandchildren: George (Brandon) Cressman, Linkyn and Liam Palmer, Raya and Jaden Keeler, Barrett and Charlee Sweet, Braydon, Jackson, and Hailey Day, and great-great-grandchildren: Wren and River Cressman.
Ray is also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends, and furry grand-pets, all of whom were touched by his generosity, humour, and steady presence.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the care staff at West Park Crossing for the love and attention they showed Ray over the past few years. A heartfelt thank-you as well to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Dr. F.H. Wigmore Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during the past month. Your kindness for taking the time to care not only for Dad, but also for us—meant the world. Whether it was a quiet check-in, a shared laugh, or a comforting word, your presence and empathy never went unnoticed, even when it went far beyond what was required. We are deeply and sincerely grateful.
A Celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. All who knew and loved Ray are welcome to attend and share in remembering a life well-lived. A private interment will take place in Medicine Hat at a later date. We will always have fond memories of our visits with Ray and his family in La Ronge and at their cabin. His infectious spirited laugh and his mischievous smile along with his kind yet soft heart made Ray one of a kind! Rest easy Ray. You’re always in our heart. Sincere condolences to Ray’s family.
A truly good sincere friend, always there with a smile and joke.we spent many miles trucking back and forth to the states hauling equipment. We always had plenty of Ag’s or Pam’s gingerbread cookies .My condolences to all of the families.

Truly a gentleman !!! Throughly enjoyed talking to Ray at Timmie’s when he came on a regular bases and especially at the Mulberry when he resided there. Will be missed by several .

Ray was a wonderful man and a friend of my late father, Bill Hodgson. He had a warm smile and always reached out to shake your hand. I sure liked him, as did my dad. My condolences to Ray’s family. Hard to see the lights of this generation go out, one by one. Good journey, Ray!

Ray was a back road wizard he could get a building anywhere with ease . I worked for Ray and he would could be a task master but in the good way. He was fair and honest taught me what real work was and a work ethic I abide by to this day. Sorry for the loss of Ray who knows what he will be moving now?
