Joseph Gerald Berthelet

Joseph Gerald Berthelet (Jerry to his childhood friends, Joe in later life), only son of Sheila Hala, passed away peacefully and without pain in the Regina General Hospital on Saturday, June 1st, 2019.  He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Berthelet; sister, Lisa Edey; niece; Natasha Edey; niece, Lili Taylor; and cousin, Mac Berthelet.  Jerry leaves behind his mother, Sheila; sisters, Kim and Robin; half-sister, Darryl-Anne and children Melissa, Megan and Jake; and various other relatives to mourn his passing.  Jerry tried his hand at sports, played the coronet and piano but loved and enjoyed making art the most. He was blessed with many talents and created some amazing artwork. He found his best happiness when employed by the CPR and until his injury, lived a normal life.  He chose a different path, but he leaves behind people he loved, and who did love him. He is at rest now, united with his father and the Lord. A Private Service was held on Friday, June 7th, 2019 at St. Aidan Anglican Church in Moose Jaw, SK with Reverend Deacon Arleen Champion officiating.  Flowers are gratefully declined.  If desired, an expression of sympathy may be made to St. Aidan Anglican Church, 124 1st Ave NE Moose Jaw SK S6H 0Y8.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

    Sheila, Kim, and Robin,
I am so so very sorry to learn of the passing of Jerry. My Goodness – 1st Lisa, and now Jerry, both left this plane too soon. I pray each of you will be comforted by his memories, his infectious laugh. Know he is at peace and reunited with Lisa and his dad – and Hermie. Kim, I’m sending a special hug to you my dear sister in law of ole’. Robin, you are an angel – the love you have shown all who know you (Nev adores you.). Sheila, what can I say, you are simply great. Always so welcoming, beautiful smile, and a wonderful kind spirit. As for Mr. Jerry, what I remember most, is his ‘pranks’ when we were all young, and the shocker to my child eyes, his pouring ketchup in chicken noodle soup ha, ha. Love to each of you xxoo

Jerry walked me through the doors of NA back in the 80’s.
He became a good friend, he helped me out of some tough
situations, he was always there for me. When I moved to
Winnipeg, I saw him a handful of times. Then I lost contact
with him, and heard he was using again. This broke my
heart. Jerry will ALWAYS be my hero, as he helped me get
clean, and still am today . May you find the peace you had been
looking for Jerry. I love you and will keep you in my p rayers.
Gods peace be with you my friend. I will miss you; you
will always be in my heart and thoughts.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I met Joe about 13 years ago in the rooms. He very quickly became a good friend. Since recovery was new to Joe taught me so many life lessons and boundary lessons I knew nothing about. I often hear his voice in my head, I laugh out loud as I share those stories with newcomers in the program.

Although it took a few years for me to find my way. I am proudly 10 years clean now! I owe my life and my 10 year old sons to people like Joe who were willing to teach us a different way to live.

In the last 10 years I would see Joe sparatically on the streets. I would give him a lift or bum him a cigarette. He always had a smile, I am gonna miss seeing him around.

Although Joe was never able to maintain his clean time in the end. I want his family to know there are hundreds of addicts he did help, he changed their lives for the better.

    Love and hugs.
