SIGMUND BEITEL
July 6th, 1926 – February 1st, 2016

Sig passed away to his eternal home, where peace and joy reign, on Monday, February 1st, 2016.  Sig will be sadly missed by his wife, Dianna; daughters, Mary-Ann (Kelly) Ludwar and Robyn Beitel; sons, Roger (Cathy) and Mark (Cheryl) Beitel; grandchildren: Layton, Keegan and Ryley Ludwar, Justin and Ashton Beitel, Logan (Amy) and Kelsie Beitel; and great-granddaughter, Addison Beitel.  Sig was born on his father’s homestead near Spring Valley, SK.  He farmed with his father for a time, and eventually purchased his Grandfather Beitel’s homestead near Bayard, SK.  He farmed for over 50 years and resided here until moving to Avonlea Manor in December 2015.  Sig was also a carpenter and framed houses, did renovations and built cabinets.  He drove the school bus for several years.  Sig enjoyed good health until the last 3 years of his life.  After retirement (even though he maintained he didn’t like gardening) he helped Dianna in the yard mowing grass, hoeing weeds and picking fruit in the orchard.  Sig was a patient, quiet man of few words.  He was predeceased by his parents, George and Caroline; in-laws, Mary and Fred Schick; brothers: Zack, Otto and Martin; sister-in-law, Annie; sisters: Irene, Elsie and Hedy; and brothers-in-law, George and John Huber, John Rossler and Adolph Gross.  Sig is survived by his sister, Betty; brothers: Joe, Len (Edna), Wilfred (Phyllis) and Marvin (Julie); sister-in-law, Margaret; as well as numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.  A heartfelt thank you to the Manor staff for your exceptional compassionate care.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 10th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Claybank, SK.  Father John-Ryan Prince will be the presiding celebrant and a private family interment will take place in Claybank Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Sig’s name may be made to the St. Joseph’s Memorial Fund, Box 1-6, Claybank, SK S0H 0W0 or Avonlea Coteau Range Manor, Box 60, Avonlea, SK S0H 0C0 (make cheque payable to Village of Avonlea).  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  James Murdock, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
