Gerald (Gerry) Been
It is with broken hearts that our family announces the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Gerald (Gerry) Been on Monday, January 19th, 2026, after a five-month battle with cancer.
Gerry was born in Saskatoon, SK on August 28th, 1955. Over the years, he worked at many jobs – from Boston Pizza as a young man to driving bus for Saskatoon Transit. He also owned and operated 1-ton and 3-ton tow trucks for Bridge City Towing for many years. In 2005, he and his wife moved to Moose Jaw, SK where he worked for Rockport Carrier as a long-distance hauler and later transitioned into the office, eventually becoming General Manager. He loved his work, and being part of Rockport was his greatest joy in life.
Gerry had a deep love for his Harley Davidson motorcycle and enjoyed nothing more than riding with friends and taking trips to Sturgis. He spent countless hours in his garage reclaiming and cleaning oil drums, carefully decorating them with decals, and giving them to friends. When he became ill, he did not dream of walking or running again — he dreamed of driving his red truck.
Gerry was the kind of man who filled a room with his presence and made those around him feel glad to be there. He was not only big in stature, but big in character. A man of integrity, honesty, dignity, and intelligence, he made an exceptional manager because he could see all sides of an issue, brought incredible common sense and compassion to every situation, and was never afraid to think outside the box. You always knew where you stood with Gerry — he told it straight, never lied, and his word meant something.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gerry and Marianne; father-in-law, Les; sisters-in-law, Carla and Marie; and brother-in-law, Rick. Gerry is survived by his devoted wife, Karen; children: Diane (Randy), Mark (Shannon), and Eric; grandchildren: Erin, Julian, Jack, Ashley, Liara, and Eliana; brothers: Jon (Marilyn), Joe, Rob (Sherri), and Martin (Rhonda); sister, Marian; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
A service to honour Gerry will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Michelle Ellis, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
I didn’t meet Gerry personally but I sure knew what a great person he was from my brother Marlow. Marlow was inspired by Gerry in his start at Rockport a very few short years ago. What was not an easy transition into the long haul trucking business for Marlow…Gerry was always behind him and taught him so many things. He always knew Gerry was behind him in all his learnings. He spoke so fondly of him. From Marlow and our family God Bless Gerry. Thank you for being an inspiration. Lori Jasper Shauna Britton and Marlow

So very sorry Karen and family. My deepest condolences. I loved anytime I could deal with Gerry in my logistic days with Viterra. His calm demeanour and knowledge always made it such a pleasure. May your wonderful memories bring you calm in the difficult days ahead. Kindest regards, Brenda Humphrey
I had the pleasure of knowing Gerry for 17 years at Rockport. Very nice person, easy to talk to and get along with. Proud to call him my friend. Was fortunate to spend a couple hours visiting with him and Karen before he passed. See you on the other side, my friend.
