Karen Mae Bedford

Karen Mae Bedford (née: Hawton) aged 79 years of Avonlea, SK, passed away on Sunday, March 19th, 2023 after a short battle with cancer.  Karen was a huge part of her community and was a loved and respected teacher and principal at Avonlea School for 32 years.  Everything Karen took on she put her heart and soul into, such as Horse Clubs, after school activities, community boards, and Avonlea Friendly Neighbours.  Karen loved the farm, baseball, horses, travel, her pets, diet coke, and mostly her friends and family.  She was respected and admired by so many.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Nellie; and husband, Walter.  Karen will be lovingly remembered by her children, Brad (Debi) and Tori (Brad); grandchildren: Kira, Alex, and Zoe; brother, Richard (Tannis) Hawton; as well as extended family.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 27th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Avonlea United Church with luncheon to follow at the Avonlea Community Hall.  A private family interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Andrew Pratt Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Karen was a super friend since our days at Goodwater Elementary School and an all round wonderful human being. Karen fought a great fight against the ugly beast we know as cancer and has become an ‘Exceptional Role Model’ for those of us left behind.
Our sympathy to Her Family as she shared so many lovely stories about ‘Your Love, Kindness and Support’ over the years and more recently on the last leg of “Her Journey.” May you all find comfort as you cherish the Memories.

    To Brad and Tori,
Your mother was amazing, and I was privileged to have her as my teacher, role model and mentor. Throughout the years, I have frequently spoken of her to my own children, as they navigated their own paths through out school, and I am so grateful to have had her be a part of mine.
I am so sorry for your loss.
