Alexander McPhee Young

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander McPhee Young, age 86, of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on Wednesday, April 7th, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 10th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Alex was predeceased by his wife Joy (nee Bell); parents Alexander and Jane Young; brothers Robert and Thomas; sister Margaret King; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Alexander and Lydia Bell. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Linda (Chuck) Brumwell of Emerald Park and their children Lindsay and Adam (Larissa) and Alexis (Tony) Schroeder of Okotoks, AB and their children Ehren (Jamie) and Graham; his sisters-in-law Edna Bjornson, Betty Young and Karen Bell; brother-in-law Cole King; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alex was born in Paisley, Scotland on November 11th, 1923. His family immigrated to Canada when he was five years old. He grew up and did his schooling in Moose Jaw. Alex served with the RCAF during WWII, worked at Blackwood Hardware in Moose Jaw before becoming a salesman for Goodyear Tire, travelling to many small towns throughout southern Saskatchewan. He later managed the Moose Jaw Goodyear Tire Store. After retiring from Goodyear, he oversaw events at the Peacock Auditorium for the Moose Jaw School Board. Alex married Joy Bell on October 23rd, 1947. He was an active member of the Moose Jaw A.C.T. and the Hillcrest Golf and Curling Club. Alex was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed golfing, curling, walking, working in his yard and having lively conversations with his coffee pals. He took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren and sharing his love of golfing with them. He will be missed. Flowers are gratefully declined. For those so wishing, donations in memory of Alex may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, Sask. S6H 2M2. or a charity of one’s choice.
