LILY ROSE MARIE SWANSON (née: Whitbread)

April 30th, 1949 – June 4th, 2025

Lily Rose Marie Swanson aged 76 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025.  Lily was born April 30th, 1949, in Hamilton, Ontario.  During her youth, she traveled, lived, and was educated in many different places in both Canada and Europe, due to being born into a military family.  She worked at an assortment of jobs as an adult, but her happiest times were spent with her husband Alfred and their four children and grandchildren.  During the winters Lily put in many hours creating quilts and knitting projects for her family.  In the summer, she loved to grow a good garden and work in the yard.  During the many family visits over the years, Lily’s greatest pleasure was spending time talking and playing games with her children and then later, her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Alfred; parents, Sidney and Rhea Whitbread; sister, Barbara Wilson; sisters-in-law, Shirley Talbot and Fran Bechard; and brother-in-law, Ken Swanson.  Lily is survived by her children and stepchildren: David Swanson (Jo Anne), Brian Swanson, Dean Swanson (Karon), and Denise Gubrud (Gary); grandchildren: Andrew, Jenilee, Julianne, Tavis, Emily, Braeden, Danica, and Sofia; and great-grandchildren, Luna and Levi.  She is also survived by her twin brother, Wayne Whitbread (Bonnie); brothers-in-law: Don Wilson, Ted Bechard, and Cecil Talbot; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Thanks so much to the Moose Jaw Home Care nurses for their wonderful support and the good friends and neighbours who have been there for her.

A private family service will be held to honour Lily.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Lily’s name may be made to any Cancer charity.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Shirese Noble Funeral Director 306-693-4550

I am so sorry to hear of Lily’s passing. She and I were in high school at Riverview together and we went on a great adventure after graduation to Waskesiu and then Saskatoon for a shopping trip. We lost touch for years but I saw her again at a community event in Moose Jaw. My sincerest condolences to her family, especially Wayne, who was also in classes with us.
