Doreen Evelyn Ryan

Doreen Evelyn Ryan aged 91 years of Moose Jaw, SK, passed away on Sunday, January 14th, 2024.  Doreen was born in Regina, SK on January 23rd, 1932, to Ernest and Evelyn Cocks.  From early on she knew that nursing would be her passion and graduated nursing school from the Regina General Hospital in 1954.  After working in various departments, Doreen finished her career as the Head Nurse of Pediatrics in the Yorkton Union Hospital in Saskatchewan.

During her time nursing in Regina, Doreen met Hugh Ryan while he was a patient in the hospital.  They were married on June 27th, 1956 and together raised three children – Barbara, Kevin, and Donovan.  Doreen and Hugh loved spending their summers at Good Spirit Lake, SK, and enjoyed many winters as snowbirds in Mesa, Arizona.  In later years they moved to Vancouver Island, British Columbia residing in Qualicum Beach and Parksville.

Knowing the importance of staying healthy, and having survived several health scares, Doreen loved to swim, bowl, golf, and curl when she wasn’t out for a walk.  At home she baked the best mincemeat tarts and drop cookies, enjoyed playing crib, and relaxed with good books and crossword puzzles.

Doreen was predeceased by her husband, Hugh; both parents; and her only brother, Roy (Verle).  Doreen will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Barbara; son, Kevin and his three children, Scott (Hristina), Mark (Abby), and TJ; and son, Donovan (Jody) and their three children Thomas (Melinda), Matthew, and Michelle; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Geyer for the care and compassion he provided over the years to Doreen.  Also, a huge thank you to all the staff at Chateau St. Michael.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 1064 3rd Ave NW, Moose Jaw, SK.  Father Bert Lillo will be the presiding celebrant and interment will take place in Rosedale Cemetery.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Doreen’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Although I did not know my aunt Doreen well,I know that we met years ago. I wish to express my sincere sympathy to her family on her passing. Families with time drift apart at times but loved ones are always in our thoughts and prayers ❤️
