My condolences to Flo and the family on the passing of Don Pequin. He was obviously a well-liked person and left a strong legacy. I knew Flo from our high school days at Riverview Collegiate, and Gary Hyland and I shared teaching stories about the importance of reading (Jim Carr always told me how smart Gary was, too).
Condolences to all the family ! Don was a great fellow and Canadian !
Auntie Florence, Jerry, and Corey and family my thoughts have been with you over the last weeks and continue to be. Uncle Don was always one of my favorites. He was a kind and gentle soul and he will be missed. I have many fond memories as a child of spending Christmas eve with all of you, including the burnt turkey. I always enjoyed listening to all of the stories that would be told, including the ones about ghosts. As an adult it was a treat to go camping with all of you and to listen to Uncle Don’s cowboy poetry. I imagine that he is now spinning tales with my dad and catching up. Much love to all of you.

Donny was an uncle is always ready to lend a helping hand, offer wise advice, or simply be happy to see you. From Uncle Donny, I learned the value of a well-told story and the memorable, instructive lessons hidden within, whether conveyed through poetry or a tall tale or sharing a teaching through a beaded gauntlet. My mom grew up loving all her uncles and aunts, with Uncle Bud being a special hero to her and I know she wanted me to experience that same things with her siblings. I can’t recall a time when Donny wasn’t part of my life – a fun part of my life. He loved southern Saskatchewan, and it was wonderful to see him living his dream of country life—owning and living on a farm pretty much to the end of his life. He will be missed.
