John Morhart

June 5th, 1936 – January 3rd, 2025

Surrounded by his family, our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, John Morhart passed away at his home on Friday, January 3rd, 2025, at the age of 88 years.

John was born June 5th, 1936, in Spring Valley, Saskatchewan to Frank and Anne Morhart, the 7th of nine children.  He grew up on the family farm and attended Artisian School, completing grade 12 in 1956.  John trained to be an X-Ray Technician at Providence Hospital in Moose Jaw, SK, completing his training in 1959.  He worked in Estevan and Tisdale, SK and in 1967 he returned to the Providence Hospital as Chief X-Ray Technician.  In 1973, John moved to the position of Purchasing Agent and would later become Director of Materials Management for the Five Hills Health Region.  John retired from that position in 1996 and soon returned to work at Pioneers Lodge working in Maintenance for more than 10 years.

John enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping, making his homemade sausage, winters in Ixtapa, Mexico for 22 years, a good drink of Scotch, and spending time with family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank Morhart and Anne Oberderfer; sisters: Regina (Frank) Tress, Rosie (Jacob) Messner, Anne (Robert) Tarr, and Marie Williams; brothers: Seigmund (Adeline Ching), Frank (Eleanor) Morhart, and Zak Morhart; sister-in-law, Sandra Maginley; and brother-in law, Nick Koshman.  John is survived by his wife, Muriel; children: Mike (Heather) Morhart of Edmonton, AB, Deneen (Les) Gieni of Moose Jaw, SK, and Jeff (Leah) Hirst of Medicine Hat, AB; grandchildren: Brett Sutherland (Anna Basirgo), Brandi Sutherland (Chris Mussleman), Tori Sutherland (Victor Clark), Claire, Seth, and Kane Morhart, and Charlotte and Sophia Hirst; great-grandsons: Damon and Winston Clark, and Maverick Mussleman; brother, Anton (Mary) Morhart; brothers-in-law, Daryl Williams and Brian Maginley; sisters-in-law: Doris (Cliff) Dunlop, Brenda (John) Robinson, and Pat Short; mother-in law, Joy Hutchinson; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A special thanks goes out to all the Doctors and health care workers who provided care and support to John.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 11th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and a private family interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery.  Those not able to attend may view the service by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in John’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
