Jean E. Hatley

On Tuesday, April 30th, 2019, at the age of 86 years, we said goodbye to our wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend, Jean Hatley, at the Regency Manor in Central Butte, SK.  She was predeceased by her parents, Charles “Chuck” Bishop (1982) and Edith May Bishop (née: Clark – 1999); sister, Marjory (1936); son, Charles (1956); great-grandson, Konnor (2014); sister, Lila (2016); and brother, Bill (2018).  Jean was born in Lawson, SK on September 24th, 1932, the second eldest of 6 children to Chuck and May Bishop.  She attended school in Lawson and Moose Jaw, SK. Jean married Austen Hatley on July 18th, 1952 in Lawson and they lived on the Hatley homestead where they began their family.  Over the years, Jean was a member of the Robin Hood Ladies Club. She enjoyed gardening and camping.  Jean and Austen spent many winters in Arizona and joined the Good Sam Club, travelling throughout the United States and Canada.  They remained together in their home until 2016. Jean will be remembered for her quick wit, her good natured spirit, and her joy of cooking.  She always enjoyed good laughs and the odd tease at her expense. Jean is survived by her husband of 66 years, Austen; daughter, Janet (Darwin) Glass; granddaughters: Jodi (Dale) Sims – Brody, Bryden and Brooklyn, Cori Glass – Kylie, Morgan, Rhett and Rhyker, Tanya Glass (Tim) – Hunter and Dawson, Audra (Ryan) Peterson – Kohen, Kolbi, Kolten, and Kortni; son, Ed (Heather) Hatley; granddaughter, Krista (JP) Martin – Maëlle and Kelsey; grandsons, Ryan (Heather) Hatley – Treyven and Daavy, and Blaine (Melyssa) Hatley; siblings, Marion Songer and Rick (Trish) Bishop; sisters-in-law, Laura Evans and Merle Bishop; brother-in-law, Bruce Hatley; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Jean’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the love and care that she received during her time at Central Butte Regency Manor. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 6th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Central Butte United Church.  Heather MacKinnon will officiate and interment will take place at Central Butte Cemetery, followed by lunch at the Central Butte Seniors Centre.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Jean’s name may be made to the Regency Manor Auxiliary, Box 361, Central Butte, SK S0H 0T0. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Calvin Gammel, Funeral Director 306-693-4550.
