HARKER, Leola “June”

1934-2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leola “June” Harker (née: Gibbons), born in Colfax, Saskatchewan on February 23rd, 1934 to her parents, Mildred and Giles “Chap” Gibbons, on Friday, January 5th, 2024 in Avonlea, SK.  June was one of 8 children.  June met the love of her life, Lloyd Harker, and they were married on June 2nd, 1956.  Once married, Lloyd built a house on the farm by Lewvan, SK for them and their daughters, Debra and Joy.  June and Lloyd lived on the farm until Lloyd retired from farming.  They then moved to Regina, SK to their large house on Kliman Crescent.  The Kliman house was bought so they could host their family from near and far.  June was always surrounded by family, whether it was spending time with her siblings and their spouses, or her daughters and their children.  June always loved to cook and try new recipes. She could frequently be found watching cooking shows for inspiration.  June will be remembered fondly for saying “that was a stupid meal”.

She was predeceased by her parents; and siblings: Shirley, Art, Bob, Bill, and Carol.  June is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Lloyd; daughters, Debra (Bob) and Joy (Rick); grandchildren: Marie (Boyd), Matthew (Nicole), Levi (Cynthia), Dustin Isley, Kacey Lee (James) and Megan (Darcy); great-grandchildren: Clay, Aubree, Elin, Odin, Isley, Dixon, Blaine, and Luxton; siblings, Betty and Sandra; as well as many nieces and nephews.  We will hold our memories of June close to our heart and cherish the time that we spent with her.

We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to the wonderful, caring staff at Coteau Range Manor.  The staff created a loving, family environment throughout her stay with them.  All the staff have such kind hearts, and we will forever be grateful for the care that June received and how that care was extended to every family member that entered their home.

A Celebration of June’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 30th, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at the Milestone Masonic Hall, 125 Main Street, Milestone, SK.  In lieu of flowers, donations in June’s name may be made to Coteau Range Manor c/o Village of Avonlea, Box 209, Avonlea, SK S0H 0C0.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane. Oh, I’m so sorry to hear of June’s passing. I got to know her at Coteau Range Manor, and I’ll miss her presence so much when I’m up there singing. She just loved singing and I loved to hear her. My sincere sympathy to all the family.
