Wendy Findlay

It is with great sadness the family of Wendy Findlay announce her passing on Monday, April 22nd, 2024, surrounded by her family, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer at the age of 71 years.

She was predeceased by her parents Florence and Clifford.  Wendy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 51 years, Gord; children, James (Amanda) and Tammy (Chris); sibling, Jo (Barry); grandchildren: Brandon (Jessica), Logan, Landon, Katlyn, Alaina, and Hayden; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Wendy was born and raised in Moose Jaw, SK and married Gord, the love of her life, in 1973.  Their life was filled with consistent sarcasm, laughter and a deep love for one another.  They had two children together and moved to Daisy Crescent in 1981, where they remained making numerous lifelong friends.

Wendy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She was known for her talent with gardening and her yard became a beautiful backdrop to many events over the years including weddings, anniversaries, and family functions.

Wendy’s early career was with the Royal Bank where she made numerous friends and when she retired from there in the early 2000’s, she found her true passion in quilting.  What began as a hobby turned into a business and a successful career as a long-arm quilter.

Wendy will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, and she would often gift someone with a quilt for celebrations, fundraisers, trying times, or illness.

In 2010, one of Wendy’s greatest loves came into her life, her dog Charlie.  Charlie rarely left Wendy’s side and would lay under her machine while she quilted, just to be close to her.

Her family can attest that she faced the last difficult months of her life with a sense of humor, grace, unwavering strength and stubbornness.  Wendy was a true gem and will be sadly missed.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff, nurses and doctors at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital. Your kindness did not go unnoticed.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 29th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery.  Those not able to attend may view the service virtually by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Wendy’s name may be made to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 55 Diefenbaker Drive, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 0C2.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

    My deepest condolences on your loss. Wendy was a wonderful mentor to me in my early quilting days, and although I no longer live in Moose Jaw, I have thought of her often over the years. I remember her at The Quilt Patch, full of life and laughter, and playing a pivotal role in the local quilting community. May you find comfort in the happy memories of this lovely woman.

    Gord, Jo, Suzie and Families;

    We were so sorry to hear about Wendy. Not only was she a co-worker and neighbour, but she was also a great keeper of secrets. When Brent and I were about to be married, I asked Wendy if she would sew my wedding dress, but the catch was, I wanted no one to know as we were practically eloping. She was up for it and we had so much fun running into Regina after work to pick out material. We had great chats and lots of laughs (Wendy had a great laugh)! When our wedding day came, Wendy had me and my mom over to get ready, and Wendy along with my mom were our only guests. Brent and I left the next day on a three week honeymoon, and Wendy kept our secret. When we finally told co-workers at a RBC party, we had to get Wendy to corroborate as no one believed us. What a wonderfully reliable friend!

    We hope, as a family, you are able to take the time to reflect, reminisce, laugh and cry, and grieve when you need to. Please know you are very much in our thoughts and prayers.

    Love,
    Marlys, Brent and Andie
