Lyle Alvin Benson

It is with deepest sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Lyle Alvin Benson on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025.  Lyle was born to Violet and Ervin Benson on July 16th, 1945, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Lyle was raised on the east side of town along with three brothers: Garry, Roy, and Denny, who all predeceased him.  There was never a dull moment with the four boys around.  They enjoyed all of the freedom in the 1950’s: roaming hills, playing baseball, football, and hockey, and of course lots of golf.  One of Lyle’s cherished childhood memories was playing 79 holes of golf in one day with his brother Denny.

Lyle had a soft spot for all animals, especially close to his heart was the loyalty and companionship he had with his dogs through the years.

Lyle married Linda Helsel, and they soon would have been celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary.  They were blessed with three children: Christine Lissel, Steven Benson, and Loralee Rosenau.  Their family grew to include sons-in-law, Ivan Lissel and Cory Rosenau, and they were further blessed with six wonderful grandchildren: Joelle Lissel (Jaeden Krein), Kienna Lissel, Denaya Lissel, Tamara Lissel, Harlow Rosenau, and Avi Rosenau.  Lyle was incredibly proud of his family and all of their accomplishments.  He loved family visits and the many memories they shared together; many of those moments circled around laughter from Lyle’s (dry) sense of humour.

Lyle worked for the City of Moose Jaw in the Parks and Recreation department for 37 years, before retiring from the Kinsmen Arena.  In retirement Lyle enjoyed working in his yard, sitting on the deck with Linda and friends, visiting with family, walks with his dog, golf, and going for tea with his very good friend Terry Smith, whom he missed dearly when Terry passed away.

At Lyle’s request, a Private Graveside Service will be held.

The family would like to thank Dr. Geyer and Dr. Hugo, the Regina Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, and the nurses at Ambulatory Care and Moose Jaw Home Care for the exceptional care Lyle received.  The family would also like to thank Andrew Pratt and Moose Jaw Funeral Home for their compassion and support.

We love you very much Lyle.
Until we meet again.

Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Condolences Linda and family. Bill talked lots about the Benson boys, especially Roy, and the great waffles their mom used to make.
