Brian Delbert Acker
It is with deepest love and sadness that the family of Brian Delbert Acker announces his passing on Saturday, August 30th, 2025. Brian was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Brian was born August 24th, 1960 in Kindersley, SK to Lilian and Ken Acker, the youngest of 5 children. Brian worked various jobs to put himself through university. He obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Saskatchewan in 1985 and went on to get his CMA and CPA accounting designations in 1990 and 2014. Brian worked as Comptroller for the Rosetown and District Health Centre until he moved to Moose Jaw in January of 1991. After moving to Moose Jaw, he started working at the City of Moose Jaw and held various positions within the Finance Department. He retired as the Director of Financial Services for the City of Moose Jaw in August 2025. Brian loved the world of finance and was always striving to learn more and upgrade his knowledge.
He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Delbert Acker; mother, Lilian May Acker; brother-in-law, Tom Lloyd; sister-in-law, Sharon Acker; and mother and father-in-law, Doreen and James Lewicki. Brian leaves behind to mourn, his wife of 36 years, Pat Acker (née: Lewicki); son, Cody Acker, whom he was so very proud of; siblings: Sheila (Doug) Francis, Maureen Lloyd, David Acker, and Lloyd (Susan) Acker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Brian will be remembered for his love of all things financial, his super green thumb, his love of gardening and plants, and of course watching his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders games. He also loved sitting out in his front or back yard identifying various birds and watching things grow. He will be missed and forever loved.
A Private Graveside Service for Family and Friends will be held at Rosedale Cemetery with Pastor Marvin Seaborg officiating. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Brian’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200-325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 or The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7. Mr. Brian Acker served the City of Moose Jaw since 1991 and retired as Director of Finance in August. He was a steady hand as a steward of tax payers dollars.
What did I learn as an early city Councillor from him back in 2016
+ caution
+ stick to the facts
+ the facts are the numbers
+ the numbers are the level of service to the citizens
+ take emotion out of the budget process and you will serve your citizens with transparency
+ the final decision is always councils, the weight of that statement was never lost on me
Few people could match the integrity and patience he showed during budget season, consistently using his answers to guide and educate through the process.
Finally, I always felt like I was on his team. Trying to make good decisions for the right reasons using all the information and facts.
He was such a nice person.
One of kind and he will be greatly missed.
Thoughts go out to his family during this very difficult time.
Pat, Cody and Family,
Our most sincerest condolences on the passing of Brian. Cherish the great memories and there will be many.
Respectfully,
Lloyd & Sandi Luhning
