DOUGLAS ALBERT KEMP
April 21st, 1941 – October 16th, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Albert Kemp of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, who passed away on Thursday, October 16th, 2026, at the age of 85 years.
Doug was born on April 21st, 1941, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the fourth of eight children. His childhood took him around southern Saskatchewan, living in Regina, Gravelbourg, and Rockglen. He attended Brownlee School and later completed Grade 10 at a high school in Regina. During those years, he made lasting friendships, including with Rocky and Jim Mann.
In Rockglen, Doug met Peggy. The two married and welcomed their daughter, Pam. They later moved to Quebec, and after their marriage ended, Doug returned to Moose Jaw, where he would spend much of his life. In 1975, Doug met Joh and became a devoted father figure in the lives of her four children: Dave, Jackie, Cindy, and Donnie. He helped raise them with love, patience, and a steady presence that shaped who they became.
Doug had a lifelong passion for strength and community. He and his brother Wayne took up powerlifting at Pyle’s Gym, and after Wayne moved away, Doug became an important part of the gym’s life and spirit. He served as President of the Saskatchewan Powerlifting Association from 1978 to 1979 and continued promoting the gym for many years afterward. Ever inventive, Doug created a tool to help lift weights onto bars, which he proudly called the “Kempenator.”
Doug drove for Central Taxi in Moose Jaw for many years and retired in 2006. Beyond work and the gym, music was one of his greatest joys. He played guitar, sang, and wrote songs, and he organized many charity concerts in Moose Jaw. These events featured many talented local performers, including Sandi Nixon, Bobbie Jarrett, Barb Bruvold, Ron Wittmaier (also known as Brad Carlson), and Kenny Roman (also known as Barefoot), along with many others.
Doug will be remembered for his generous heart, his love of music, his dedication to family and friends, and the kindness he shared with everyone around him. He put a great deal of love into the world, and that love will live on in the many lives he touched.
He was predeceased by his mother, Sara Jane Kemp (née: Garner); father, Lester Manley Kemp; and brothers: Brian Kemp, Gerald Kemp and Gary Kemp. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Pam; by Dave, Jackie, Cindy, and Donnie, whom he helped raise; his many grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Bonnie Hagley, Darlene Kemp, Wayne Kemp, and Donald Kemp; as well as extended family members, friends, and all who knew him.
A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 21st, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Bobby’s Place, 63 High St E, Moose Jaw, SK. In memory of Doug, the family encourages friends to share a song, lend a hand to someone in need, or support a local charity. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
