Aloys “Al” John Schwinghamer

Aloys “Al” John Schwinghamer, aged 88 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026.  Al was born to Mary (née: Weber) and Aloys Schwinghamer on April 10th, 1938.  

Al grew up in Bruno, SK and attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK, graduating from the College of Engineering as a Civil Engineer.  Al then started on a distinguished career in Engineering, taking him from Melville to St. Boniface, Moose Jaw, and finally Regina, SK.  Over the years he received many awards for his contributions to Civil Engineering.  

Al met Joan McRae and they were married February 1st, 1963.  They were blessed with three children – Holly, Michael, and Patricia.  Al and Joan made Moose Jaw their home, enjoying many wonderful years in the community.  Al was a very community minded individual, serving as an Alderman on council for many years and Mayor for two terms.  

He was predeceased by his parents, Aloys and Mary (née: Weber) Schwinghamer; sister and brother in law, Annette (Albert) Huber; brother, Jim (Yvonne) Schwinghamer; sister and brother in law, Margaret (Dale Ebert); brother-in-law, Ted Chouinard; brother and sisters-in-laws, Irene (Fergy) Ferguson and Mary (Don) Bennett; and parents-in-law, Alex and Amy McRae.  Al will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 63 years, Joan; their children: Holly (Sid) Ripplinger and family Chris (Belma), Rylan; Michael (Melodee) and family David (Christian), Rachel (Tyler); Patricia (Rob) Jackman and family Stephan (Kayla) and great-grandchildren Carsen and Gavin, Alex (Nini); sisters, Kathleen Chouinard and Helen (Rene Jule); as well as many nieces and nephews.  

The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Father Andrew Lindenbach will officiate and interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.  Those not able to attend may view the service by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s name may be made to Providence Place Foundation, 100 2nd Avenue NE, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 1B8 or to a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Andrew Pratt, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
