Edward Joy Yau Yee

Edward Joy Yau Yee, aged 92 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 18th, 2026, at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital.  

Ed first immigrated to Canada in 1955.  He went back to China, married Yuet, and returned to Canada in 1960.  Ed spent his entire professional life dedicated to the retail and restaurant business in Regina, SK.  He obtained his bartender’s certification in Vancouver, BC, and his Journeyman’s in cooking in Saskatchewan.  In the early 1960s, he and Yuet owned and operated the Stop Over Tea Room.  At the same time, Ed worked as a waiter at the WK Restaurant.  In the mid-60’s he became one of the owners of the Oriental Bowl Restaurant, adding bartending to his responsibilities.  In 1969, Ed and Yuet started Edward’s Grocery and Confectionary, which became a staple in the community for decades.  Over the years, Ed was instrumental in assisting family and friends in their immigration journey to Canada by providing career opportunities within his business ventures.  Upon retirement, Ed and Yuet followed Ritchie and his family to Moose Jaw where they helped with their endeavors and the grandchildren.  

Outside of work, Ed was always keeping active.  Whether it was listening to music, building Heathkit projects, staying on top of current events, reading, following the stock markets, collecting coins, ballroom dancing, travelling, or solving jigsaw puzzles and sudoku, he was always curious.  Family, friends, and lifelong connections were also high priority.  

He was predeceased by his parents, Park Hing Yee and Pui Ching Yee; and brother, Lloyd.  Ed is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Yuet Sung; children: Sabrina (John), Robert (Jackie), and Ritchie (Eugenie); and grandchildren: Aileen, Monique, Thomas, Helena, Alex, and Josef, who will remember him for his enduring strength, wisdom, and the legacy he leaves behind.  

A private family gathering to celebrate Ed’s life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200-325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 or to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 55 Diefenbaker Drive, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 0C2.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550
