Raymond Lloyd “Red” McKibben

Raymond Lloyd “Red” McKibben, aged 86 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, passed away on Friday, September 18th, 2026, at Pioneer Lodge – Memory Lane.  

Raymond Lloyd McKibben who went by Lloyd or his nickname “Red” or “Red Fox” (later in life he was occasionally referred to as the “Silver Fox”).  Red was born in Moose Jaw on August 28th, 1940, to Raymond Alfred and Florence Minnie (née: Larrivee) McKibben.  Red spent the first couple years of his life on the family farm in the Mayberry district south of Moose Jaw.  In November of 1942 Red’s father passed away in a farming accident, so his mother moved to Moose Jaw with him and his infant brother Roy.  Florence raised Red and Roy as a single mother in Moose Jaw.  Red’s first marriage was to Mary Overs on May 21st, 1962, and they initially lived in Moose Jaw along with spending some time on the farm.  In the mid 1960’s the family farm was sold and Red and Mary moved to British Columbia.  They ended up settling in North Vancouver where their three children – Kelly, Darren and Sheri were born.  In 1977 the family moved back to Moose Jaw.  In 1987 Red moved to Mortlach, SK with his son Darren.  While in Mortlach he started dating his second wife Ev Hickling and they married on Jan 31st, 1993.  The next move was when his employer, PFRA, transferred Red to Swift Current, SK.  Sometime after retirement Red and Ev made their final move to Chaplin, SK.  A couple of years ago, due to declining health, Red could no longer live on his own, so he reluctantly moved back to Moose Jaw and into Points West Living.  It was at Points West where Red met his special friend Gina Neumiller, who was with him till his last breath.  Red did various jobs in the early years but spent most of his life working as a truck driver, starting in Saskatchewan, and continuing in BC and again back in Saskatchewan.  Red retired as a federal government employee having worked for the PFRA for 27 years driving throughout the Canadian Prairies.  Red was most proud of his family, and his happiest moments were any time he spent with them.  Some of Red’s other fond memories were the trips he made after retiring with Ev to Arizona, Nevada, and Nashville.  He also very much enjoyed the few trips done when Darren took him trucking around the USA and Canada. 

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond (1942) and Florence (1981); brother, Leonard Roy McKibben (2022); and grandchildren, Darren and Michael McKibben (1990).  Red is survived by his children: Kelly (Ryan) Korbo, Darren (Patricia) McKibben, and Sheri (Dano) Smith; grandchildren: Brittany (Justin) Silzer, Kyle (Megan) McKibben, Eric McKibben, and Dylan Pakula; great-granddaughter, Jaycie McKibben; and special friend Gina Neumiller.  

We would very much like to thank the Points West staff for treating Red so well and doing all they could to help him and make him feel at home during the time he lived there.  A Thank You also goes out to the staff at the Regina General Hospital and especially to the Moose Jaw Pioneer Lodge Memory Lane staff for their dedicated and caring assistance with Red in his final weeks.
