IRENE ANN HOOD
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that the family of Irene Ann Hood, aged 81 years of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, announces her peaceful passing on Monday, September 21st, 2026.
Irene was born on November 7th in Moose Jaw, and lived on the family farm south of Mortlach, SK. Eventually the family moved into Mortlach where she attended Mortlach School. Irene then began her employment with the telephone office.
Irene met the love of her life, Keith Hood, and they were married in July 1962 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2012. Together they had three children – Robin, Sandy, and Troy.
Irene enjoyed camping a ski-dooing. She also loved to travel down east to visit her family. She was also very lucky to have been able to go to Scotland and Nashville.
While raising her family, Irene worked part-time for a local auctioneer, then started a full-time position at Joyners. She retired a few months after Keith. They lived for many years in Mortlach and spent a lot of time at the lake – Buffalo Pound, Douglas Danielson, and Riverhurst Marina.
Irene and Keith enjoyed every minute they were able to spend babysitting the grandchildren – Alex, Alyssa, Riley, and Emery. They attended many soccer, baseball, and track and field events. Family times were often spent at the lake, on the water boating and fishing.
After Keith passed away, Irene started a part-time position in Moose Jaw at the Quilter’s Haven. She was very talented at sewing and lots of kids’ clothes and grandkids clothes were made. She also enjoyed cross-stitch and petty point, but by far quilting was her favourite. She had her own quilting room that took over the entire basement of the house, with the pool table being the best place to lay out material to cut and piece together. She even had a quilting group with a few very special ladies – Vi, Lorrie, and BJ.
Irene moved into an apartment in Moose Jaw and stayed there for a couple of years. Eventually she moved into the Mulberry Estates where she made some new friends and found some old friends from Mortlach.
She was predeceased by her parents, Eva and Harry; in-laws, Irene and Lewis; husband, Keith; brother, Ernie; sister-in-law, Florence; and brother-in-law, Arden. Irene is survived by her children: Robin, Sandy (Wally), and Troy (Pam); grandchildren: Alex, Alyssa (Chris), Riley, and Emery; brother-in-law, Cam; sister-in-law, Diane (Bill); niece, Donette (Larry); nephews, Corie and Travis; as well as many cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Irene’s Life will be held on Thursday, September 24th, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Those not able to attend may view the service by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/
