Milbert Schock

Milbert Schock was peacefully ushered to Heaven on Monday, April 27th, 2026, at the age of 97 years.

Born November 14th, 1928 to Hilda and Johannes Schock in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, Milbert was the eighth of ten Schock children.  Along with Loretta’s ten siblings and their spouses, Milbert and Loretta cultivated great relationships with our aunts and uncles, forming close lifelong friendships beyond simple family ties.  Countless holiday occasions were spent celebrating with extended family.  Milbert and Loretta were a hospitable couple who enjoyed deep connections with many of their farming peers and church community.  The Schock farm became a hub of friend and family gatherings.

Milbert farmed all of his life, an upbringing that taught his children and grandchildren many valuable lessons.  He exemplified hard work and perseverance.  His farming career began in the Glenbain District, where his father homesteaded.  In 1967, he, Loretta, and their family relocated to their farm in the Rural Municipality of Baildon where they farmed until their retirement.  The farm they built was not only a workplace, it was a loving home and a special place for connections with family and friends.

Milbert was dedicated to Jesus his entire life.  His sincere, abiding, and steadfast faith, and his love for God and others, impacted all those around him, especially his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  He set an example for us all through his dedicated service to the Free Methodist Church, Aldersgate College, and Share Word Global (The Gideons), and through his extreme generosity towards a multitude of charities.  He faced the challenges and joys of life with tenacious faith, peaceful acceptance, graciousness, humor, a warm smile, and an infectious giggle.

Milbert retired from full-time farming in 2007, but continued to support David and Janet, operating farm equipment, driving grain trucks, and running for parts, until 2014 at the age of 86.  We were so grateful and happy that, in his retirement, Gordon McIver encouraged Milbert to take up golf.  He enjoyed golfing as often as five days a week, (but never on a Sunday!), with many family and friends.  His last round was October 4th, 2025.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, M. Loretta Schock (née: Kowalsky).  Milbert is survived by his children: Roch, Richard, Karen, David, and Murray, their spouses, and numerous grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. A. Waldner and the Moose Jaw Palliative Care nurses who gave not only Dad, but also our family, incredible support these past weeks.  We have come to love and appreciate Miriam and her professional, compassionate staff at Marcie Private Care Home where Dad spent his last months.  It has been a blessing to witness people of different faiths coming together in spiritual harmony as Dad transitioned from earth to heaven.

A Celebration of Milbert’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 16th, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at First Free Methodist Church, 375 Hochelaga St. W. in Moose Jaw, SK.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Milbert’s name may be made to First Free Methodist Church, Box 1294, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 4P9, One Mission Society, PO Box 1457, Burlington, ON L7L 6A3, or Shareworld Global, PO Box 3619 Stn Main, Guelph, ON N1H 9Z9.   Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Andrew Pratt, Michelle Ellis, Cara Ashworth, Shirese Noble Funeral Director 306-693-4550

I hauled liquid fertilizer to his farm. When I stopped to see if I was in the right place, I asked, Are you Mr. Schlock? He looked up at me and said The name’s Milbert!
